J-SPEC Questions

I have no idea what the hell J-SPEC is (Japanese Spec???), but I hear that J-SPEC cams, pistons, and intake manifolds all produce more power. Where can I get these J-SPEC parts? Also, correct my assumptions if need be.

Thanks Men,

It's the stuff that came on the Japanese version of the Protege, called the Familia. Also goes by JDM (Japan Domestic Market).

JDM cams might be worth 5 hp or so, it comes at the top end and sacrifices a bit down low.

Isn't the JDM intake manifold the same as the USDM MP3 intake manifold?

The JDM pistons have a higher compression ratio but require custom engine management or the extremely-hard-to-get JDM ECU.

Someone (Linuxracr?) did the JDM swap and found it didn't do much w/o the proper engine management.

You can get the stuff at corksport or srmotorsports.

You say the JDM mani is the same as the MP3 mani... what's the difference between the MP3 manifold and a P5's?

We don't have one of the butterflies. I think the one everyone likes to remove we don't have them stock. :) It makes the car feel like VTEC at 5200RPM. Even more so with the J-Spec inttake cam and turbo for me at least. The intake cam is an easy find here and there in the FS threads. The exhaust is much harder to find. But the intake is plenty since are cars don't breath any air. It does kill low end but it makes up in top end.

Well, these are all topics that have been address before..

The JDM Manifold has no VTCS and neither does the MP3, but the JDM also has a different resonator prior to the runners, which does something to increase airflow...It is not the same, but it really is not that much different.

Search and you shall find thee answers to all your questions...

Probably noticeable.

I decided against them since I rarely use the rev range where they help. Rather keep the "power" where I most often use it. One reason I don't have a Honda.
