So far tonight I got the turbo off, soaking the manifold studs in wd-40. Took off the valve cover and some assorted wires and hoses before my back started to get sore. It's been a long day. Couldn't sleep last night, and got to drive 300+ miles with a bad motor. Fun stuff

Why can't mazda make a motor to last more than 197k miles? :p was hoping to hit 200k miles at the end of April while at deals gap... I guess we'll see what happens.

Bummer dude. If the Esquirt isn't legal, and you need a vehicle to get around in, you can borrow my Miata. Let me know. :D

tempting offer...

But I need to get the Export on the road. I should have done it last week, like I planned, but now, well, what can I say, I'm a procastinator...

If I have problems with it, I'll let you know. I put a tie rod on it last night before I started on the FSM, and will put the all-season steelies/tires from the FSM on it tonight. I'm taking pop's car today to go to the DMV then work, and will get the Export inspected tomorrow morning.

BTW, you still selling it? A thought crossed my mind, now this is only a thought, but was thinking if the FSM needs more than a head job, to park it for awhile while I gather parts. Parts to make it a serious track b****, not some lily-footed regular Miada. Of course, then I'd want a regular one to drive daily. Just a thought...

Yes I am definately still selling the Miata. The new top arrives Wednesday. We'll see if I ever get time to install it!

confirmed that is is the valve. :|

Doh :(. Did you identify the cause? If you lived closer, I'd be more than willing to provide any assistance and a part here and there. Are you going to replace just the damaged valves or the entire head?

Actually, I'm going to replace the whole motor. It's the "right" way to do it. i could just do a head job, and be back on the road in a matter of hours, but the bottom end has ~197k miles on it. Might as well do it all. I'm gonna pick up a motor from a wholeseller with less than 45k miles on it for $650. Since I've now decided to make it a weekend/track car, that's the way to go. I figure with other 'consumables' like hoses etc, and Mazduh Competition motor mounts etc, I'm setting my budget at $1k

I already got 1 person who wants my block to rebuild for his SpecMiata. And am getting rid of the PS and AC while I have everything out, so I can regain a few more bucks selling those parts.

I got a daily update, and pictures posted on the site linked above..

At least the brunt of the work is out of the way. That was a pretty quick turn around. Keep us informed as to how she does!

Yeah, I'm about 70% complete. It was quite an undertaking for me to do by myself in 1 weekend, in my parents garage. But i was financialy motivated since the engine hoist was rented :p The car has to be ready in 2 weeks. I'm going to the Gap end of April :)

All done. you can read my saga in the link above...

I see both of you are selling miatae. What are the details on both of them? VA isn't too far away. You guys can either PM them to me or post whichever.
I am pretty interested.

Well, I'm selling the Miata, but I've already got a buy lined up. I just need to finish getting the new top on, and then we'll wrap up the deal. I'm pretty sure Fadi isn't selling his anytime soon, either.

For the right price I am.

With out the turbo and hardtop, it's $4k
With the turbo and hardtop, it's $5.5k

Otherwise, here are the vitals:
91, long nose motor. Motor and suspension have less than 50k miles. 12# Jax wheels, with new Toyo T1Ss. 1.8l brake upgrade with slotted/drilled rotors and Axxiss Ultimates, Fronts are new. Hard Dog, Hard Core Double Diagnal roll bar. Battery is less than 2 months old, and the clutch is an upgraded unit capable of 225 ft/lbs. Just did timing belt and thermestat less than 100 miles ago. Radiator is a 2-row, all metal. P/S and A/C come in boxes in the trunk. Bipes ACU.

The turbo is a Greddy set up, and it has a full 2.5" exhaust from the turbo back. It will put 150hp to the rear wheels, easily.

Car will be availible for sale May 2.
