I love my car... I really do.. I prob will have some tears when i see her go... bottom line I don't need the hassle that mazda has given me from day one. A car shoudl be fun to shop for, to buy and to own.. but mazda just made it fun to... huh complain... it's not the car... it's the service that comes with it.

I have put up with 2 eyars of it.. I don't need the trouble in my life anymore...

I will still be here. though....

Jc

sorry to hear about your bad luck man. bad service can ruin a good car companies name. just please DONT BUY A NEW SI. get something good.

Boooooooooooo. d00d, you're one of the reasons i bought MY mp3! :bs:

I'd go to the dealer that's 45 mins away before I'd get rid of my car.

JCSMP3.... I AM COMPLETELY WITH YOU!!!! MAZDA IS ONE OF THE MOST F'D UP Companies around!!!!!!!!!! they wont take care of anything... but i also agree that, without the suspension problems, tranny problems, and the company that comes w/ it, its a nice little car... (hmm.. thats kind of alot of probs tho)

but if it makes you feel any better im almost POSITIVE im selling in about a month or so... prolly just get a 94 GSR.... check out my horror story below if your interested.... (and im sure i left a few things out too)

Hey all... I'm somewhat new here... been browsing the site for tips, help, tech info and misc. stuff about my baby :D .... but i haven't registered and posted untill now... anyway, the reason I'm posting is because this is just nutty how everyone is having the same probs as me w/ the tranny & suspension....

maybe 2 mo after i got the car, it started grinding into third gear (1st vrrrm, 2nd vrrm, 3rd crunch! vrrm) the majority of the time that i was shifting into it... anyway.. i took it down to dealer (Alhambra Mazda, Alhambra CA... however i bout it at Romero Mazda, Ontario because Alhambra wanted to overcharge me) and the dealer told me that they would have to pull it apart and look at it, and there was no guarantee that it would be covered under warranty. So first off, im (without being vulgar) EXTREMELY UPSET to put it lightly.. "You mean to tell me i just bought a brand new car and paid for the extra warranty, AND paid cash for everything, and your P.O.S. transmission starts breaking down.. but I have to pay for it?"... needless to say.. this was bad enough.. then they tell me that it is also going to take them a week just to tear it down and look at it. So I tell them that I'll come back when I have a week that i dont have to go to work, or school, or to the store, or anywhere else for that matter since they can't give a 19 yr old a rental car (that is a whoooooolllleeee different story that i have a problem with). So anyway, about two weeks later, im driving down the street and i come to a stop light... Green.... 1st, vrrrrmmm, 2nd vrrrmmm, 3rd CRUNCH!!!GRIND!CRUNCH!!!... hmm.. WTF WAS THAT?!?!?!!? "MY CAR!, MY BABY!!! AHHHHH" i stop and hold down the clutch try to come out of third gear.. nope.. not gonna happen... try again.. still nope.. not gonna happen... i finally get it out of third and put it in 4th "position" but its still in third "gear" if you understand what im saying.. so i put it in 1st, 2nd... R... the whole time its still actually in third gear... (i know because if i rev waaayyy up to about redline and sllllloooowwwlllyyyy let the clutch out it will kind of SLOWLY move forward (even in R) and if i release the clutch, it stalls.. finally someone stops (didnt really have a choice i was blocking a 1-way street ) and he helped me push it while i held in the clutch (it wouldnt move because remember it was in gear)

so after this unfortunate incident, i HAVE to leave it there for like 2 weeks, and after fighting w/ the damn service mngr. at Alhambra Mazda, they finally fix it... but not before they charge me for a new clutch... even though the reason the old one was burnt out was because i was trying to rev to get the car to move (even a little) so i could get it to the side of the road... but they didnt care (and frankly i didnt mind TOO much about the clutch.. because they aren't covered under warranty anyway) after the two weeks i go pick up the car.... pull out of the driveway and guess what boys and girls.... thats right! 1st vrrrm, 2nd vrrm, 3rd crunch! vrrm AHHHHHH!!!!! those F**king bastards!!!!! still grinding even w/ the new part!@!!!@#!@#!$! i was sooooo pissed i didnt even go back to them... oh yah.. and there was a weird kinda scraping/clicking noise coming from tranny after a week of getting it back... so i took it out to ontario... the Romero Motors guys were awesome.. they did everything they could and told me that they put whatever they can under warranty out there... so he checks the car out, and guess what ALHAMBRA MAZDA DIDNT PUT EVERYTHING BACK RIGHT AND ALLLLLL MY TRANNY FLUID LEAKED OUT!..... so i was driving for like a week or two w/ no tranny fluid!!! and Romero Motors cant touch the car because Alhambra is the one that botched the job...

also... about a month after i noticed the tranny prob... i noticed a pretty loud squeaking coming from the rear.... and now i see that a few others are having the same problem (this isn't as big a deal to me since i was planning on full suspension upgrades eventually)

Anyway... im writing a letter to Sacramento (I suggest you do the same) complaing about the company, the dealership, the poor service, the defective parts, and demanding that they issue a recall... they may not listen, but if they don't... its seriously lawsuit time... I CAN'T BELIEVE MAZDA TREATS THEIR CUSTOMERS LIKE THIS!!! I should've just bought a used 94 integ GSR.... could've saved alot of money considering i walked in and payed cash for the MP3...

Mazda may have a good concept of what younger, import tuning car buyers want, and may be becoming more popular in the import world, but they can't seem to make a car that is stylish, performs, and doesnt BREAK!... or take care of a customers concerns....

anyway... thanks for letting me vent... even though this post is so long i doubt anyone will read it (i wouldnt :) )

Here is a letter I wrote to the Director of Public Relations at Mazda Canada.

Good afternoon Greg,

I have stored your e-mail address from a previous enquiry I had with
Mazda Canada. I have delt with the 1-800 number but at this point in
time I am frustrated and simply so tired that I am actually looking
at selling my car, simply on these few issues.

My dealing with Mazda has been nothing but a headache after another.
At first the lies that where given to me from day one on the arrival
date of my MP3. I was given over 5 different dates in total which I
did not appreciate. After driving my car for 9 000 kms the shifter
fork broke on me, I was accused of shifting too hard, or " power
shifting ". Never has any of the Mazda sales people or mechanics sit
with me to make this accusation. Accusing customers without solid
evidence or proof is an extremely bad thing to do. Them knowing the
piece was going to be on back order for awhile, called me to tell me
I had to wait 3 days to receive a rental. This is totally
unacceptable, I drive 45 min to work and by bus it's over 2 hours. I
bought a $25 000 car cause I need it to get to work. I bought an
import cause of it's higher resale value and over all better build
quality and reliability. 4 weeks after the initial problem I
received my car. I did eventually receive a rental and I was
thankful for it but the rental was not close in comparison to the
extras I had paid for. Such as power windows, power door locks and
such. I paid for these things and it was sitting in the he garage
for 4 weeks. Again very bad for the customer. I just bought the car
and it was sitting 2 months after in the shop. Once I received the
car I drove it for 3 weeks with an odd performance change, it wasn't
handling well and hydro planning very easily. I later found out that
the dealership had put my tires backwards... this has not only
increased tire wear but compromised my safety. I had to drive back
again to the dealer, wait 1 hour for the tire rotation. More of my
time wasted, on a brand new vehicle because of incompetence.

The second issues has been with my fog lights. I have the OEM set
burn out on me. I replace them with Canadian Tire OEM wattage lights
and they burn out as well, along with 1 fuse. I then get two after
market white lights, same wattage but just a blue film over the bulb
to make it white instead of yellow. They also burn out along with 2
fuses. I bring into the dealership to get it checked out, I get a
very quick response telling me the lights I had installed where too
high of a wattage. I ask them what the wattage of my lights where,
they didn't know, I asked him what the OEM where they didn't know and
finally I asked them what is supposed to go in there the type of bulb
they also didn't know. They call me again accusing me of something
in which they have zero knowledge on. They didn't ask questions they
pointed fingers, which is not acceptable especially when they
couldn't answer my very basic questions. They then call me 3 hours
later telling they had found the problem and it was a faulty wiring
harness. It will be done under warranty. Why the false
accusations?? why even accuse a customer with zero proof nor
knowledge on the subject at hand.

The last issues in which has driven me to be totally unsatisfied with
Mazda is this. I call up the service dept asking them to check my
front passenger tire as the wear seems un even. The service manager
comes out accusing me of putting after market tires, then after
market rims, and then he tells me I lowered the car.... the car is
stock. nothing added that Mazda didn't put on from factory. I
simply asked to find out if my alignement was ok, and we finally came
to terms that my mileage is above the required limit for my warranty.
I can accept that as that. What I don't accept is the other
accusions and zero knowledge on a product that was sold at that
dealership.

Accusations are a very bad business practice and not knowing your
product is as well. I am actually going tonight to test drive a few
SVT vehicles, price is of no option but service is. I am not
satisfied with any part of my purchase of my car besides the car
itself. Right now your number one complaint on any discussion board
isn't that your product is not good, it's that you can't match your
excellent product with some decent service. I wrote you this letter
in hopes that it may shed some light onto your business' practice or
what is going on with your customers. It's just too bad that I had
to steer two Protege 5 buyers away to the ZX5 simply cause of a few
bad business practices exercised by your dealerships.

Thank you for you time

Sincerely

Jamie Camirand

Good letter Jcs.... the only thing that i would have changed is the part about the excellent product w/ bad service... yes the service is bad.... but the product is far from excellent, in my opinion that is... sure, it is an AMAZING car, w/ out all the problems. Look at it like this... take away the suspension probs that everyone is having, the tranny probs that everyone is having, and some of the misc probs that quite a few ppl are having (i.e. fog lights) and it would be an absolutely amazing piece of japanese craftsmanship... also, take away all those problems and you wouldn't have to deal w/ the extremely idiotic, weasely, sheisty, horrible horrible people that work for mazda. Not all of them, for example, Romero Motors in Ontario, Calif. where i bought the car is great, however Alhambra Mazda, which is the only dealership under an hours drive away, is unbelievably inconsiderate of the customer. They tried to pull the same crap w/ me... telling me i was powershifting, or pushing the car too hard, and that I "illegaly street race, and push the car beyond its limits"... and all these accusations before they even took the time to open the hood or put it on a lift... Granted, I do Drive the car, and sometimes I push it... however, not to the point where it is too much for the car to take. Plus, WTF is the point of buying a sporty, compact, rice rocket if your not going to be giving it a little gas now and again... cmon... we all know that no one buys an MP3 to take the kids to and from school... even if it is a four door (IMHO the four doors are only good for one thing.. insurance hehe)

anyway.. i just cant get over mazda's horrible cust svc.... I worked at Earthlink for quite a while, and I thought that their cust svc quality was completely bad... but now that ive dealt w/ mazda... nothing can top it (or should i say bottom it)

anyway.. once again.. thanks for letting me rant... oh yah, I also was interested in whether or not there is anyon from the Los Angeles County area w/ a p5 or mp3 on this board??

Jamie give me the email, i want to write them as well to complain for many similar things....maybe enough letters will wake their ass up

how much for the mp3?

and as far as someone telling you to got o the dealer that is 45 mins away, go for it man. I really want the mazdaspeed protege, I think it is awesome performing and looking, and its 4 door compact car so my insurance wont be ridiculous. Its unique. There are just so many reasons I want one instead of any other car on the market right now.......but the closest mazda dealer to me is 45 minutes away. I put a deposit down on one a few months ago towards 1000 over MSRP, but then upon finding out most ppl on this board wont pay over MSRP for a car out of principle, and finding out that other dealers in new england (im located in CT) wont be charging over MSRP I decided that I wouldnt pay over MSRP. Its not about the money, its about the customer service. It seems so disrespectful to the customer to just say "I will have more buyers than cars so I can charge whatever I want", and thats what my dealer said, even though I was still the only person he had with a deposit down, he acts like he has 30 ppl lined up bidding higher and higher. yadda yadda, im straying from the topic here but the bottom line is, I am going next week to put down my deposit on a mazdaspeed at a dealer on the other side of the state, almost 2 hours away. I am kinda pissed that the dealer is gonna be so far away, and thus be that much more inconvenient but I am sure the service I will get there when I do make the trek, will be the absolute best.

Jamie, sorry to hear what you've gone through. I leave my dealer to deal with Mazda Canada, so I have been able to avoid the many problems that you & others have encountered with them.

I like your letter very much, particularly the part about steering 2 potential P5 buyers to Focus 5. One thing to note ... since the revenue target lies with the product managers, the complaint will be much more effective addressed to product management than public relations. (unless you are associated with the press)

One question - Which dealership did you deal with? I want to make sure I steer clear from them in the future!

Good luck!

JcsMP3,
Your letter is pretty good in subject matter. The only thing I suggest you do is proof read it before sending it. You will probably be taken less seriously with all of the grammar and spelling mistakes in there. Just a friendly suggestion. Hope you get a response and some friggin customer service. Good luck!

Chris
