i just bought a 2008 cwp mazdaspeed 3, and i filled it up with gas - reset the trip meter. Drove 40 miles and the guage reads 3/4 tank. Is this common? Please need your input.
Sounds to me like a corroded sending unit in the tank. My 05 Sport Trac started doing that (reading way low), and here's what I did: Ran the car as near to empty as I dared to, drove to the gas station, poured in 2 bottles of Chevron Techron Fuel System Cleaner, filled the tank all the way up to the top of the filler neck, and drove it until empty. It hasn't acted up again since.

That stuff kicks ass! I ran that stuff a few times in my 94 F150 with daul tanks in each tank. It ended up saving me 900 bucks to correct the cross flow problem between both tanks. The dealer wanted to replace BOTH fuel pumps to correct the issueof the return fuel doing to thew wrong tank.
I was wondering as well because i bought an 09 and mine reads about the same. I usually get 250-265 miles on one tank, from what i figured out that is like 17mpgs which seems pretty low from what ive read.
