Is this engine oil safe for my Mazda 3?

So I had my regular oil change this morning from an outside garage. I opted to have it outside the Dealer since I don't want to leave the car overnight to them for just an oil change, considering its for the 35000km maintenance. Anyway, from what I read from the engine oil bottle that the guy from the garage used was a "20w-50". I've ran the car about 5kms after the oil change and it was normal, smoother ride to be more specific.

My question now is, will that type of engine oil do any harm to my engine in the long run or at least before i reach my 40000km service? Should I have it replaced immediately by an engine oil that was specified on the car manual? I've read that it's good for places with very hot climate and some said that it can "dangerously" go thin in extreme temperatures, thus my confusion now with this information.

Hope someone can clarify this. Thanks!

I would go with what the manual says. I believe there is a warm weather/climate option. Sorry my manual is not readily available to give a better answer.

20w-50 is THICK oil, even for being in the desert. i would have it changed out with the recommended oil.
