Is this bad?

I know everyone gets rust on the tops of their rotors, but I don't like how much I am getting on the middle ring more toward the center because it is so visible when looking at the car without being close to it. (boom02) I noticed today that the grey coating is crumbling off in this area, probably due to the heat generated by the brakes. I just gently touched it and a big piece of the coating cracked off. if you look at the first pic (the inner circle of rust toward the top right you can see what I mean.

Did this happen to everyone after about four months? (scratch)

It's all normal wear and tear buddy. My rotors look just like yours. And my front brake calipers are almost completely covered in rust. Dont worry about it though. It will take years and years for your rotors and calipers to go bad unless you drive like a racer :D

that's funny.. my rotors are 19 months old and they have very little rust on them. My brothers pokes at me saying I wash my car so often rust has no time to form on them?!
I will take some pictures tomorrow to show you what I mean.

Problem with rust on the hub of the rotors is that it makes it harder to get the rims off when you need to rotate them...

Ive had mah car for 1 year n five months and ive had mah brakes and rotors done 2 times and they wanted me to pay for it... but mah dad talked to em and said that it was bs how brakes and rotors can go so fast.. i just got them done for the second time like 1 week ago and they paid for it bc there was a prob with em and now they have new breaks.

If you live in a region where they salt the roads in winter, EXPECT more than usual amounts of rust, it is perfectly normal.

(mswerd) road salt is a b****
Tell me something I dont know, I cant stand the amount of salt they put on the roads in Qubec, sometimes it's as if they want to have fun and put loads of salt on dry roads even though no snow is forecasted fo the next 4 days. I dont understand. I think they put too much money destroying the roads and are cars rather than maintaining the roads properly here in Qubec.

i know what you mean. id say for every inch of snow we get, they lay about a half inch of salt. its ridiculous. and washing it off is out of the question becaue its so cold you wont be able to open the door. im moving to the south dammit.

There's one more problem about washing off the salt, it scratches the paint no matter what, I got a black Mazda 3 and G-d damn it. It has to be polished every damn year to keep it looking good. At the end of the winter you can really see al the scratches and marks and all the s***. The polish saves it.

I would love to be in Chile on the coast for are winter months. Been there twice and it's awesome. Loved it!

damn, i was talking about the southern US, but s***, chile will do just fine.........real fine....

OMG, you have no idea. My dad was working on a project down there and was there for 2 years. The summer is soo damn perfect on the cost. always around 20-25 degrees, nice breeze, the best part is that he stayed in a high class neighborhood on the 16th floor of a luxury condo facing the ocean and with the most beautiful view. The distance of the building from the ocean and plus the fact that this entire neighborhood is perched on a hill about 400 ft above sea level made everything spectaculor. The Garden and pool area owned any holiday destination. The best sunsets are in late December early January. I would trade anything to live there. I want to die there. Seriously!!!!

Well we get lots of road salt here in Toronto, but my car has not experienced this yet since I bought it in April....so I'm wondering, if my rotors already look that bad after 4 months of summer driving, what are they going to look like after the winter? :(

I live in Ohio which I thought was the mecca for salt usage during the winters but here are the pictures I promised. They are from earlier today.

yeah I have rust too and that "looks like I had my wheels stolen and the rotors were resting on cinder blocks" spot on the top too. you can either sand and paint the hub and edge so you don't see the rust or just ignore it....If you paint it I reccomend a hi temp black so it doesn't look like overspray from the red calipers that re all have.

Probably the same as they are now, I dont hink they can look any worst except for your brake calipers to get a nice tint of rust, you can stop that by painting them with heat resistant paint. Clean the calipers with something acidique first

I wish I had a digi cam. I would love to show you pics of my rotors, they salt the roads soo much. My rotors and calipers look like they are 7 years old, no joke. I mean it litteraly.

thats nothing is it bad when you hit the brakes the left wheel makes noises over the exhaust and the front end shakes. I can't stay out of the damn dealership for nothing!!!

(protest)

Wow, what made your 6 become that way soo fast?
12xx miles ago I had the tsp done for the brake vibration where there is an issue on the 6 where on left turns the pads come in contact with the rotors. That was fixed but I think somethig came loose so I'll check it out soon before they try and get be for mods that didn't effect the left tire.
