Is there anything special you need to do to TPMS sensors?

I bought a used set of TPMS for my MS3 & am installing them on aftermarket rims. I'm gonna service all the sensors first since they're off but do I need to link the sensors to the car at all somehow? I guess every car is different, I heard some you have to press a certain button combo on the stereo, etc. Just wondering if anyone has done this & if it's just put the sensors on the rim & they're good to go or not. Thanks.

According to the owner's manual:

1. After the tires have been changed, turn the ignition switch to the ON position, then turn it bakc to the ACCC or LOCK position.

2. Wait for about 15 minutes.

3. After about 15 minutes, drive the vehicle at a speed of at least 25 km/h (16 mph) for 10 minutes and the tire pressure sensor ID signal code will be registered automatically.

Note: If the vehicle is driven within 15 minutes od changing the tires (TMPS sensors), the tire pressure monitoring system warning light will flash because the sensor ID signal code would not have been registered. If this happens, park the vehicle for about 15 minutes (Remember Step 2?), after which the sensor ID signal code will register upon driving the vehicle for 10 minutes.

Normally, I would not take the time to type out owner's manual info verbatim, but I just swapped new wheels onto my car, and it was sitting right here in front of me, turned to that page.

You're welcome. LOL

I bought a used set for my winter set up -- I didn't do anything to sync them with the car and they worked just fine.

Me too.

Though I have to admit that I was wondering what was gonna happen the first time I started it up with the new TPMS. The guy who installed them specifically said he wasn't sure if they would work or not.

Are there specific sensors I need to get or will any mazda ones work? There's a bunch on ebay but they arent ms3 specific, just mazda specific

any tpms, just as long as it's for MAZDA, will work. just make sure you get a new o-ring kit (you can get this from any reputable auto parts store).

+1; the ones i use on my winter set are off a regular mazda 3 which I purchased off ebay for $105 shipped -- they worked with no issues last winter.
