Is there a How-To for engine removal?

I need to remove the engine from my P5, I'd like to leave the auto transmission in place, so I need to separate the engine from the torque converter while its all still mounted in the car. Is there a step by step how-to for that somewhere? I searched, but can't find it.

I have the shop manual, but its not detailed enough...

I already removed the air intake and exaust stuff and unplugged all the sensors and fuel lines, removed PS pump and AC compressor, coolant lines.

Not sure what are next steps....

Thanks in advance.

I don't know for sure, but I'd be surprised if that was even possible. It if were me, I'd just pull the whole thing, then separate the motor/trans, put you tranny on the new motor, and then wedge it all back in. Getting the transmission off/on will be much easier with the engine out of the car.

Is there a particular reason you want to leave the transmission in the car? I guess I've never dealt with removing an ATX, but going through it in my head, it seems like far less work to remove the axles and shift linkages than to try and maneuver the motor out with the transmission in place.

It's relatively easy...

Remove in this order
-intake, battery, battery tray
-wiring harness, stash it on the driver's side of the engine bay
-radiator + fans
-axles
-heater core hoses (firewall)
-powersteering lines
-ac lines (remove refrigerant in an environmentally friendly manner)
-unbolt engine mounts
-lift!

I can make a how-to next week when I pull the 2.0L F/I engine out of the red protege... and install a 1.8L N/A engine.

+1 this would be helpful
And i agree it is probably pretty easy once you get everything unplugged and unbolted.

I'm interested in this as well. I just ordered a JDM FS to put in my '01 LX. I started by first disconnecting the wiring harness. I'd like to not have to remove the transmission if that is even possible. If pulling the axles out is easy I guess I'll pull the motor and trans still bolted together.

Hope the JDM coil pack motor works too, lol.
