Is the MSP going extinct?

I have seen alot of pics of totaled msp's going the that scrap yard and I know alot of you have seen this as well. This a limited addition car right so I was wounder how many of them in this forum have been KIA. How many of them are still on the road? I mean the real MSP FROM THE FACTORY, not a protege conversion made up of parts from another totaled msp.

That is a good question. It is the main reason I bought it over the EVO VIII.

Mine is still alive and kicking with 91,xxx miles on it. It has been rear ended 3 times, has had 3 new rear lips, 2 new bumpers, a new trunk, both new tail lights, and a new rear drivers panel. Mechanically it has had a new LSD, and new drivers wheel bearing, along with other upgrades that I did. I have had several chances to sell it and I chose not to. I love the fact that it is kind of rare and not something you see everyday. This is the first car that I honestly really want to keep as long as I can..

Mine's dead. Rolled it down the highway into a tree after getting clipped in the rear quarter panel at 70mph, amazingly walked away (sort of). I'm still going to therapy because my back is severely messed up.

Replaced with a 2004 MSM (had to stay in the Mazdaspeed family). Almost bought a WRX though.

Depending on the amount I recover from lawsuits I may buy a used MSP. That won't be for a while though...the legal system is slow.

Far from extinct. There are still many more on the road then KIA by whatever reason, driver stupidity, other driver stupidity, or just bad luck. I almost never see another one on the road. I like that exclusivity factor. Going strong with over 52K. Keep things in perspective the number of wrecked MSP's, blown LSD's, worn out clutches are in no way an epidemic. The one thing that seems common is the blown HU.

Eventually everything will be extict when the world gets engulfed by the sun in 4.5 billion years.

true but i see like 20 or 30 proteges a day, not really exclusive when its built on a ecnobox.

And it still is an econobox, but I love them all the same. What's wrong with cheap, reliable, and relatively safe transportation? I see a ton of Protege's daily but it is exciting whenever I see another Protege5, and the P5 isn't at all limited. I think I've only seen 2 or 3 MSPs that weren't at Protege meets, gotta love it.

Mines alive with 11,000 miles..2003.5 model...The more MSP that goes KIA the rare my car turns..lol..I guess its kinda bad luck in a part for one reason....The msp ends up in a accident cos they LOOK DAMN GOOD ON THE ROAD. My wife mpv hits another car while backing up cos she was staring at my MSP. Mind you, my msp was parked, imagine it ist moving. Well i guess that is the reason. Thats why im keeping mine mostly in the garage and just using my converted JDM MS protege 2gen instead.

I was referring to the Mazdaspeed Protege as far as exclusivity. I doubt any one sees 20-30 MSP a day. Its exclusive because it is not a high volume model. Thus the limited production moniker. It is quite common to see regular Protege's and P5's daily.

The highest number of MSP's I have seen in a 24-hour period was 4. And there is quite a lot around NJ & NY.

But yes, I get excited when I do see one...usually I see about 3 or 4 a month tops. I wouldn't say they are going extinct though. You hear a lot of stories about wrecked or blown MSP's on this board. But that is only a small percentage of the total # of MSP's on the road.

mines still going after submerging it half way up the doors in water.

$10,000 in damage,but it's alive again,better then ever.
