Is my paint coming off?!?

I just washed my car yesterday with "simple green" car wash mix, and a sponge, and left it to dry on its own after rinsing without driving it. Today, I look and discover that there is a covering of very fine yellow grains of roughly identical size all over the hood, windshield, and roof!

Last two times I washed the car I applied nu-finish car polish. Would this have anything to do with it?

Very concerned about this... I heard that the yellow has a reputation of wearing out easily...=/
 
OMG!!!!!! NEVER USE SIMPLE GREEN TO CLEAN YOUR EXTERIOR!!!!!!!!!! i suggest you do the 3 step meguires wax on it FAST, to replenish what finish/clearcoat you have left. cleaner wax, polish, and carnuba wax.....from now on i suggest wash with meguires car SHAMPOO, great stuff and applies a slight coat of wax while you wash....just my .02 worth.....
 
lol s*** is the stuff really that bad? I just use all the wrong stuff, don't I, first it was dish detergent now this.
 
wait, is this simple green actually a car wash mix or did you just mix in some simple green yourself? cause if you did the ladder then (hand).
 
The yellow for some reason does not seem to have a clear coat on this car. I have seen people end up with yellow sponges waxing the car.

Simple Green is a very powerfull cleaner...

This is an actual car wash, which claims itself to be safe for any paint finish. It's not the general simple green all purpose cleaner. :)
 
ohh, in that case, if your paint is comming off take pics or something and maybe you can get $$ for simple green fuxxin up your paint
 
well, i didnt know this....anyway, that website is still a great guide for anything car related (washing, waxing, interior, exterior tires...everything) id suggest using meguires car shampoo still

I hear that the yellow is a sort of paint and clearcoat in one mixture, so its got no extra protection. No reason for it to just run off from a car wash, though. Damn, how much does it cost to get a clearcoat done... can you even get one done on paint that's not new?
 
CaptainKRM had similar issues with a detail shop rubbing off his paint. However, the simple green, whether it be the car wash or the concentrate, cannot be good for your car. I don't care what marketing genious there came up with a car wash idea, but the fact that Simple Green is used in restaurants to remove stuck on grease and we used it at Cartoyz during fiberglass cleanup and such, I'll never use the stuff anywhere near my car.

From now on, please invest in decent car wash stuff.. If youre getting it over the counter, get Meguiars car wash liquid in the purple jug, and try out their NXT wax. While the protection doesnt last long, it's much better, in many people's opinions, than most others.

The Yellow does not need a clear coat if it's maintained well with a solid quality wax.

Mothers or Meguires...
 
Can using an abrasive polish cause the paint to come off in a fine grains? I'm not sure if that's what Nu-Finish is, but I'm now thinking that maybe it's because last time after I washed I applied Nu-Finish, and this time when I washed it carried away the loose paint the abrasive took off?

Either way, I just don't think it's possible for a car wash fluid to do that, when I've used much rougher stuff on cars before without anything like this happening.
 
Pictures. It's not nearly as bad as it looks on the pictures, because I think the flash overexposes anything bright, but it's definitely there. A lot of it has collected at the bottom of the window now that I've driven the car.

First of all, don't use NuFinish anymore. It's crap, and it's abrasive.
Secondly, please invest in a good wash mitt and decent car shampoo. Throw away that sponge and just use the Simple Green for garage cleaning or something.
And third, DON'T LET THE CAR AIR DRY! You'll get hard water spots, and those are a PITA to get rid of!

That's really weird about those yellow spots. Are you sure it's the paint? It's not pollen is it? That would be a welcome discovery for sure.

I can't imagine any car wash soap causing something like that. But what you need to do is wash the car properly (AND DRY IT...properly), and then apply a quality wax. Please don't tell me you bought some Simple Green wax either!

And BTW, I don't think you can just have a paintjob clearcoated any time you wish. But keeping a healthy coat of wax/sealant on it at all times will protect it the same way that a clearcoat will.

BTW, Simple Green is just a company. It doesn't mean the car soap is actually a dilution of the SG degreaser. Maybe it is, who knows.

Nevertheless, go out and get some Meguiars car soap. There's NXT, Deep Crystal, and Gold Class soaps. Any of those are perfect.

If you really want a nice wash mitt, get a sheepskin mitt from http://www.exceldetail.com
I've got 2 of those heavy ones. Oooooooooooh they're nice!
 
hey detailer, is that wheel sealer any good from that site? also is it safe for all wheels?
