Is it ok to wire ahead of time?

No worries on the shortness. IT's all understood, we've all been thee, man. Kick back and have a good beer. You got it all wrapped up, good feeling isn't it? You can always pull your door-wires later when you've got more time and patience or something. And, actually I'd think that running wires to the dash is WAY shorter than doors. I seem to recall using like 20' between both of mine just to get under my passenger seat. of course I lef tlots extra in the doors. Also, I'm curious. You got to the plug, didn't get the clips depressed, but did you get the rubber boot back on with it still attached to the car??? ifso props to you, Doing that's almost harder than the rest of everything. As someone else mentioned, it's alot trickier looking than it is, I just took toomany pictures and broke it WAAY down for the sake of anyone who might happen to be as clueless as myself. Did you understand atleast what you were trying for? It took me a good bit of poking and prodding to figure it out. Let me know if it's kinda hazy, I'll gladly go try to get more close-ups or something and explain better. All that said, 50w should be fine for stock. Possibly the upper limits, but you're not gonna hurt anything at that.

As our ever-attentive servo said, just avoid temptaton to get more power, it's just not possible with your current setup, nor was it ever intended or is it really desireable at that. You'll have PLENTY of juice. And yea, stock speakers for testing's cool, just realize that they're designed to operate on about 1/3 of what you're sending to them now, so take it easy. Set your gains very low, and then you can go back and re-adjust when you get your real speakers wiredup.

thanks again....

it did feel good to see the amp sitting where i wanted it with the wires coming up into the amp, then i realized i couldnt fit the 4g into the end of the gold connector ...still it was good. i like to have done everything myself because its more rewarding when you say see here is my stereo and people are like "its an amp in the trunk". well dammit i spent a lot of time doing it myself. i wasnt shopping at the mall while some moron cut every corner to save money and put it in.

yea i got the plug and was able to pull the rubber pretty far from the door jamb. i was actually trying to find a way to get my wire through that somehow lol, but my hands are just too big to even come close to fitting in there.

as for the power, im sure ill be happy with it! after all i had some low level pioneer 4x6s with a RF 160a2 amp and i was happy, so this should kick much more ass. when i hook up the stock speakers (if i get a chance its like 0 with wind chill) i was just gonna turn the gain all the way down.

thanks again!

just a tip on gain settings guys. don't stop the volume at where ever u think youll turn it to. go ahead and turn that volume up higher and higher until the sound distorts then back it down some. the higher you get your headunit volume and the lower you can keep that gain, the quiter any hiss or noise will be. with newer high end headunits u can get the volume up to around 95% before any distortion sets in. so make use of that.

Basically he's saying that it's always better to have your gains as low as possible (which is a higher voltage setting, so say the range is .5v to 6v you'd want to keep things as close to 6v as possible. this is less sensitive, and a lower gain, but a higher voltage required to operate with this. Kinda gets reverse-logic confusing I guess, but yea. Gains are a way to compensate for the variances in rca's output power. higher power flowing through them means less possibility for noise in the system. What sndsgood is saying s that you should try turning your HU volume up higher when setting up your stereo. Basically your headunit will clip when it's over-volumed as well, so ideally, you want to have everything set to wher eyou're just before clipping for maximum clean power output. Not only for sheer volume but for clarity as well.

And yea, congrats on getting everythign run. THe rubber boot thign I was being impressed with is if you pulled the boot off, then actually managed to get it back on witht he plug still in the door, I spent like 2hrs one night doing that before I knew how to get it all apart. once you figure out how to get the whole plug out of the doorjam life gets easier. Butyea, this isn't realyl necessary for you at the moment, so I wouldn't stress it toomuch until sometime when it's nice outside and you're in the mood to go mess with your car.
