is it legal?

Here in MD, you can have white or amber up front and you must have red in the back. Clear corners and markers are fine, but clear tail lights are not. Not to mention, clear tail lights are ricey anyway.

Yep, I'm in the same boat. The sidemarkers don't blink. =) I think I'll fix that today, though. *nods* Just for safety reasons, anyway.

here is the deal, it is a local inforcement rule but from what I have seen through AZ, CAli, WA, and OR it this.

Since I have an 03.5 I have both the bumper lights and the side turn signal lights(little ones close to the door)

My side turn signal lense is clear and comes stock with an amber bulb behind it. this is the one that blinks for turning and is perfectly legal(obviously, it is stock)

I have put the clear celica lenses on the bumper lights and have left the stock bulbs there to soon be changed to hyper whites.
Since these dont blink for the turn signal it is ok that they are white, jut as long as they arent a color used for traffic signals or emrgency vehicles, so no red-green-yellow-blue. things like purple are ok but can make a cop moreager to pull you over for something else.

At first I was gonan replace my side turn signals with badges, meaning I would have to put amber bulbs in the bumper markers or leave the yellow lenses and wire the turn signal into them.

Also I believe the side turn signal(small one) is not necessary, so in reality I wouldnt have to make one of them blink. the reason for this is only new cars have all these side lights, I have seen alot of older cars on the road that dont have side lights/signals at all.

In Ohio, as well as other states, it is illegal to drive with exterior neons on. You must be parked to operate the neons. (not that anyone follows the rule). Just like the red/blue washer LEDs... you're not permitted to emit either of those colors from the front of your vehicle. I even saw one guy that had them hooked up to his turn signals instead of this running lights... the lights flashed along with his turn signals.

According to DOT: if you are running clears in the rear. You must run colored LEDs or bulbs. My dad has been driving for state of Ohio for quite a few years and pays attention to the DOT regs. He gets on my case about all kinds of car stuff. "Why do you kids go and do this? Don't you know it's illegal?"

fu@k it, unless you get an @ss cop, it shouldn't be a big deal. I've got 5% tint on every window of my p5, in fact I've had 5% tint on every car I've ever owned and never had trouble with cops. I seriously doubt acop is going to make a fuss over a clear light.

If I had to guess, I would assume most people here speed, that's illegal, but do you really care about that.

Did you also tint your frontwindsheild? because here in NY that is extremely illegal.

Neon's Under the Car is Illegal..In NJ...Even if the bulbs are hidden!

yea, my windshield is tinted 50%. it is illegal as hell here too. i know a lot of cops and they say around here they dont even look for that s***. i guess if i got pulled over by a real dickhead id be screwed buy untill that happens im not going to worry about it.

Try this with the front windshield tint, its a pain in the ass though. Tint the windshield before it is put in the car, I know huge hassel but just do it when its replaced next time. What the cop looks for is a tint line, If you tint the window before its installed they can't see a tint line. Here is the sweet part. If the cop says anything tell him the car came that way when you bought it if you bought yours used or tell him the window place musta made a mistake and got you the wrong glass, you never noticed, and will have the window place put the right one in. I have blue lights in my mirrors and when a cop asked me how I got the blue lights in there, I said "came that way" and showed him how they changed to amber when the turn signal was on. He looked confused and changed the subject.
The key is to volunteer as little info as possible, never help the cop write you a ticket and chose your wording correctly. If I had said the mirrors came that way he would have realised they were not original and probaly wrote me a ticket. If I had said the car came that way then I would have been asking for trouble, don't lie to cops.
In Iowa:
you have to have a red reflector in back and red bulbs,in front you can only have amber or clear. I asked a cop about the new blue headlights and he said, " um...dunno.. I guess they are legel since they come on the new cars."
you can have neons on your car if you are not moving on a public street, but I have seen people roll right by cops before with them on.

Forgot to mention that a police officer cannot for any reason when they pull you over place any part of their body in your car. This is considered illeagal search. They cannot put their head in the car and look around or place their hand in your car when they stop you. Also they have to have reasonable cause to look in any closed or locked container or compartment within reasonable reach of the driver. In other words they can't just pull you over and say we need to look in your trunk. If at any time you do not feel comfortable you can ask to have the police officers supervisor come to the scene. Now if you do this be prepared to have them fully search your car and write you a ticket for anything they can. You also have the right to pull over where you feel safe within reason when a cop turns on their lights. You also can call the police on the police. I did this once, the cop calmed down reallll quick. You also have the right to record anything that goes on while you are being pulled over, just make sure you state this to the officer and get his acknowledgement.

I saw a guy the other day on my way to work. He had red and blue flashing neons on his roof, and there was a cop driving right behind him down the freeway. I was sure he was going to get flashed, but the fuzz didn't seem to care.... They probably just woke up.
