Is it just my MP3 or is it hard to shift into reverse?

I don't know how to explain but here's what happens. I just bought this car 2 months ago but yeah.. So when I try to go into reverse I'll push the clutch in then shift it into reverse but it won't go all the way in. So I have to put it back in neutral and push the clutch in and shift it into reverse again and then it'll go all the way in. Is this normal? If not, what's wrong and how much will it cost to fix?

I don't know if the P5 and the MP3 have the same transmission (but I think they do). In the P5, the reverse gear doesn't have a synchro, so mine would grind or not fully engage when I shifted into it. I started going into first, then reverse, and the quick jaunt into first lined up the synchros and made reverse no problem. I do it all the time now, it's second nature. I could just be the transmission design, or maybe you do have other issues. Maybe change your gear oil (I use Redline Mt-90 and it's golden stuff).

its a normal protege thing, just put it in first and then into reverse and it should work just fine

don't even bother with going back into first, just put the shifter in neutral and release the clutch and press the clutch again then try it...

i have done that a few times and it dont always work, but with going to first to reverse it works everytime(scratch)

and neither does shifting into first or well for me it doesn't. Every now and then I have to shift to shift 2nd then reverse or it wont fully engage for me.

What I do when it wont go into reverse is just stick it into first, just pull forward just a hair and then put it into reverse, works every time.

Does anyone know if their are upgrade syncro's for our trans? I only know of upgrade LSD(quife), and gears.

I will have to try that next time!

it's just a qwirk we have to live with. It's annoying as hell, but as long as nothing breaks, I'll live with it :)
And I guess the fix is different for every car; for me, putting it in neutral and letting go/reapplying the clutch works. for others, maybe the syncros are in in worse shape? Who knows...

my mp3 always had that problem. never put enough miles on the msp to find out though.... just get out and push her backwards... you'll get some fresh air and a good workout. hehe. damn thing is light weight anyways.

haha i thought it was just mine that i had to do that..lol just puttin it in first then back into reverse i have to do every day lol
