Is anyone planning any long road trips?

good write ups everybody. i have a p5. but if i start a family i think the 5 will be a perfect family starter vehicle. i like the fact that it has 3 rows of seats. thus you can have 2 kids in their own row and (hopefully) they won't kill each other during the trip.

but that's down the road, hopefully the mazda5 is not a 2 year run like the p5 was.

ladygrey, how big is the tank in the car? can't imagine it being smaller than 15 gallons.

It is about 15.5 gallons, but the light comes on a little early and my husband is an absolute freak about getting gas once the light is on (justified on this trip since we were driving in area where we had 160 mile stretches with no services). The slightly smaller tank coupled with the lower mpg than I was used to made the increase in stops noticable.

ok, i understand. my p5's tank is about 14.5 gallons and i can drive about 50-55 miles after the light comes on. i imagine its the same with your car. i do drive on fumes very often.

I just came back yesterday from a Montreal/West Palm Beach round trip with my wife's Mazda 5. Total mileage done over 12 days: 5,700Km or 3530 miles.
The Good: Relatively comfortable for a long trip, good handling, lots of room for stuff, peppy engine, cruises very well at 70mph
The Bad: Unbearable wind noise and road noise. So-so mpg (average 26.5mpg)

EPA estimates are 26mpg hwy for the auto and 27mpg hwy for the 5spd. You averaged 26.5 mpg. Not sure how bad that is?
I did not say it was bad, only so-so.
my 26.5mpg is for real imperial gal, not the tiny U.S. gal.:)

Just got our 5 on Dec. 31st. Took it up to Ithaca, NY From NYC (Approx 200 Miles) Highlights: The Nav System worked great around those dark roads without signs. I couldn't have done nearly the amount of running around without it.

Great Sound from the Stereo as well.

However, just yesterday I was looking for a Shell Station, and the Nav system directed me in to a residential cul-de-sac. I also couldn't find several stores, nor an entire shopping mall! Therefore, I tend to believe that the database upon which the Nav System is based might be a little bit old.

Whom should we contact @ MAzda regarding this issue? I don't mind paying a fair amount for a new Nav DVD, just not a fortune.

We'll be taking it up to Montreal & Quebec City via Vermont this summer. I also might take it out to Cedar Point in Ohio.

Any news on a roof rack?

Speaking of bad Navigation gaps, is there any updated DVDs with new maps? Can we call up the NAV people and give them updated info? There are a least 3 mistakes just in my suburb. Maybe the NAV people listed in the OM?
