Hey guys, I just hit my 15k mark and the dealer recommended a tune up.
It was kinda of pricey, so I was wondering if i can just ignore it. I always had my oil change on time, and took well care of the 5. what should I do?

Oh, sorry about that. Mazda doesn't call for anything other than a oil/filter change at 15k. Don't even need to change the plugs till 75k, although I wouldn't wait that long. They call for the air filter to be changed at 30k. These are for normal driving conditions. Are you a man or a woman? If you're a man, you shouldn't own a car without being able to change your own air filter and spark plugs. Right now there's no need for it, but if you feel like tinkering around, go for it, plugs and filters are cheap enough.

Oh, and if I were you, I wouldn't go back to that dealership for any service. If they told you that you need a TU @ 15k, you're getting bent over dry.

No "tune up" needed at 15k. Check your owner's manual.

That's just a way to get $$$ out of you.

Thats what I hate about the Mazda dealer that I bought my 5 from. They lured my wife into the extended 100,000 warranty and oil changes every 5000 are covered for 48,000 miles. But I didn't want it because the warranty overlaps with the factory warranty and I don't trust some punk grease monkey to change my oil properley. Its just that generally oil change guys are not great at what they do, because they get paid nothing and are waiting for a better job oppertunity. The only good thing the dealer did was drop the interest rate down to keep the payment the same, but still just feel like I got screwwed but my wife is happy and I'm very happy with the 5.

I just had my 10k checkup done, it was basically nothing but rotating the tires and changing the oil and peaking at some other stuff. Cost me about $50.

I have no trouble letting them change the oil and rotate the tires. I dont have a real mechanic in town I trust yet and I'd rather pay them a few extra bucks than take it to one of those spiffy lube places...

But there is nothing at 15 other than the oil change in my owners manual. Sounds fishy.

Don't forget to have them change your headlight fluid, my dealer is running a special right now, both headlights flushed and filled with fresh fluid only $699.99+ tax.

so what exactly did they mean by "tuneup"? I'm happy to have a little bit of overservicing (e.g. change oil every 3500-4000 miles), but if they wanted to change the spark plugs at 15K, that's a bit overboard.

If the owner's manual doesn't say anything about it, you don't need to have it done. That's my rule. :)

you have 15k miles on it? time to trade it in. mazda 5's are only good for 5k miles. that's why it's a 5.

Exactly. I went 'round and 'round with a Honda dealer years ago because they tried to hard sell me a 60k mile service that was about $400. They said I "needed" stuff that the service manual didn't dictate, and my reply made them back off. I just simply asked if they knew the car better than the guys that made it. If the manufacturer doens't think I need it, then what makes the dealership smarter? It's just a ruse to get money out of your pocket.
