Is a fuel pressure regulator going to make a difference?

I am new here, thanks for all the info, it is kind of daunting. I am building a pro5 to comete in autocross. I am in the ST class which allows the replacement of the stock fuel pressure regulator. I have an injen intake and racing beat catback on it now, and I plan to custom fab a midpipe. So will somthing like the BEGi Fuel Pressure Regulator make a difference? Can I even get one at this point?

Your help is much appreciated.

you can adjust your fuel pressure which will in turn change your air fuel ratio. higher pressure=more fuel at the same injector duty cycle, less pressure= less fuel) without having to use a piggy back or standalone ECU. you will need to tune it. but the FPR will change the pressure over the whole rpm and load points, you cannot fine tune it, so the ECU will prolly compensate for it anyway.

i wouldn't bother with it to be honest, the gains would be very minimal

EDIT BEGI, makes an N/A application FMU. so yes that would work. but with a near stock engine i don't know if the price and time to tune it would be worth it. also if you go turbo later you would have to replace it for a boost application FMU. BTW CPE uses the BEGI FMU on their protege turbo kit for fuel management and put out 246whp @ 8psi

the ecu will pull your fuel anyway...you can use a voltage clamp to trick the ecu, but you'd be pushing extra fuel for nothing, unless you're boosted?

Any kind of ecu deception is against the rules for my class. Same goes for boost. I am not planning on going turbo, but I am looking for every little bit of HP I can get.

So, on that note, I can have my stock ECU modified as long as it is in the original case. Would that be a better route or is that still not going to increase performance? I am really unfamiliar with the workings of the stock ecu.

Thanks for your help.

I change the fuel pump on my 2000 protege if i shoot alittle gan in the breather it cranks and runs idle like a kitten. The minute i mash the petal it starves for fuel, stumble the shuts down. i check the hose coming from the pumg and it's getting plenty fuel to the injectors. Any recomdentations?
