is 39k too many?

i wouldn't say anything specifically. if the TSBs are done (and you can document that they are ALL done) its essentially the same as an 06, other than the fact that its just older. Consumer reports will favor a model year that was shipped from the factory with the same TSBs fixed as an earlier model which had to get them done after the sale, and in reality the 2 cars are NOW the same. honestly, I usually shoot for the middle of a production run for my cars. they figured out the problems in the beginning, and I'm not paying a premium for the last year of production of the car just because its "newer", when I could have the next model year's newer body, drivetrain etc for just a couple grand more.

Ok im following you on that one... but what was changed in the 06 engine?? Sorry if im a little annoying, I just like to know as much as possible and learn from the experts haha.

Salvage title would scare me off of this one unless I got an insane deal.
totaled out from a "minor accident" after which it was still drivable? I suppose its possible, but I would want to know every detail about the accident and what was done for repairs before I touched it.

I would say get a receipt of some sort and contact the shop all the work was done at. Find out if any corners were cut during the repair as they often are to save money...(nailbyt)

I'd wanna see the work order/bill if possible, and the police report (should be able to get that with the VIN?)... ideally the insurance adjust's workup on it as well, but I don't think thats public record, so you'd need the cooperation of the previous owner.

I purchased a salvage S-10 and rebuilt it (new bumpers, tailgate, grill, windshield, and some frame work in the back)... then a few thousand later the transmission went, and i had to put 4 ball joints in it. Ended up about breaking even on everything against what it woulda cost me to just buy the truck in the condition I sold it in... You have to be very careful with salvage titles. They can be a great deal, but in some cases you can end up really getting the shaft...

I believe the ecus were different, I know some of the seals used have been changed and I cant think of anything else off hand.

as for buying a slavaged vehicle just remember it will NEVER be right.. NEVER.. and your car will show u that in time.

I bought an 04' 2 years ago. Made sure all the recalls and TSBs were done beforehand. It also had the engine replaced before me. I've not had a single problem with mine. Love every minute of it and more so.

Ok, well i have another question. If a 04-05 is bought, and the engine has not been replaced, would you be in the position where you have a ticking timebomb on your hands and have to wait untill something happens inorder to have a new one installed. Or is there some sort of preventative program out there as for engine replacement?

Oh and sorry about the thread jacking in all but i have one more question.

What is mazdas program for engine replacement?? How many _____ does it take to warrant an engine replacement? Because im sure they would like to replace as few as possible and will do anything to get out of it...

if a seal is gone, and its under warranty theres not really an option, it'd be like a spun rod bearing or snaped piston ring/land... they really don't have an option but to dish out for it if its blown and under warranty.

Ok so they will replace only if a seal is gone.? What about the whole cold start or flooding problem. I have read up quite a lot on the rx8 and I know how tempermental it can be, but i have also read about older model 8's repeadly flooding and having the "cold restart problem". Do they cover this at all or no?

the cold start they will roll back and say its eithe rcarbon problems or something else and may warranty the "fixes" for a while but not for ever.. and yes is a "seal" goes thats a MAJOR part yourengien is toast.. we dont mean seal like gasket we mean seal like APEX SEAL!

if the engine has never been replaced then I would hope it goes before the warranty... if this car has a salvaged tittle the dealer may no longer warranty it also.. thats another thing to look into

Well i knew that it was the apex seal... and i figured they would cover that. I just dont understand how they wouldnt replace it after repeated cold start problems etc...

But oh well.. I know what to expect i guess haha. And like i have read, as long as you drive it "correctly" and perform all proper matienence, most problems can be avoided.
