Finally gettin around to buying the 8 ive wanted FOREVER

Found one for 13.9k with 39k miles on it.

It was an older guy (40's) that owned it and the dealer states he was quite the gear head (he traded the car in for a z06, so i believe them).

It comes with a serius radio, aftermarket rims and some wicked tires..

Basic question, Is 39k miles too many to buy the car at this price? ...basically is it worth it?

I wouldn't think it's too high.. probably a good deal IMO. I paid $13K for my MSP with 54K miles. And to get an 8 with lower miles at around that same price, I think that's a good deal.. especially if it has been taken care of.

with the info that you have up, i am finding that a 2004 with that trim package and that mileage would start at about $15k, a 2008 with that trim and mileage would be worth about $20k, and the other years would be scattered in between there. this is based on the phoenix area where you live.

you should consider somewhere between 10k and 15k miles a year to be average. all of that being said, i would still offer them $13.5K drive-out (all bills paid) since the economy is pretty crazy and they aren't going to sell very many rx8's right now. odds are that they got it for half of that anyways.

if its a 6 speed i would say its a good deal. especially with nice aftermarket rims and everything...just make sure they do the maintenance on it before you buy it. U dont want to buy it and find out that the spark plugs and coiils and wires were not changed. also the oil and tranny fluids. spark plugs alone are around 80-100 bucks for the set.

and 2004 RX8s are jumping off the lots still. they are very cheap comparing to the new rx8s with very few changes.

trim packages are the main changes over time. you can get the r3 in 2009 model, but that is the only major change. if you get a 2004, make sure that it has had all of the TSB's. the owner may not know anything about it and the dealer will probably just lie about it. if the car has been dealer serviced, it will have all of the TSB's done.

sorry for the delay, yes it is a 6 speed, doesnt have leather or anything, but its in super good condition.

NA rotary engines tend to have quite a long life depending on how they were maintained. But your right just like any other engine properly taking care of it is the key. Biggest thing is to keep the carbon from building up.

correct I would not buy an 04-05' RX8

My question is, Why is that?? I mean if all the TSB's were taken care of why would it be any different then the 06 and up. What changes did they make in 06 that make them "better"? Im just trying to learn a little bit more on what makes the 06 diff.

well the 04-05 models had problems with engine seals leaking, I think they had omp problems and IF these items have not been taken care of then I would stay clear.

there is a reason why Mazda has backed the 04-05's with a 100K engine warranty because they know they are notorious to blow.

once the engine has been replaced then sure go for it.
