Hey guys, I've got a dilemma here. I got a Black 30GB Ipod video as a gift. It's still in the plastic. Worth $300+/-.

Let me start by saying that I HATE iTunes and I already have 14gb of music in MP3 & WMA formats on my computer.

Should I

A) Sell the Ipod and buy another MP3 Player (Creative Zen, iRiver, etc.)

B) Get over myself and just keep the iPod.

C) Screw music. Sell the iPod and use the cash on mods.

iTunes and iPod go hand-in-hand, if you don't like one, then the entire "package" doesn't fly. The "aftermarket" for iPod is huge, so it's hard to get away from that, but it is possible.

There are better players out there too. My personal favorite non-iPod player is the X5 from iAudio:

The new Zen is a good choice too (even though personally, I don't care for the "extra features", like sub-par voice recording, FM radio, and the like).

There are some iTunes alternatives out there too (search for them), but again, the integration is "it"....*bleh*

if you don't listen to music on the go (gym, airports, bike riding, etc.) DUMP IT and get some money in your pocket!

well, if you sell it, sell it before the new ones come out.

Good point; they're expected to release a new generation/features within the next month or two....maybe...possibly....

after looking at that site, i like the iAudio M5 pretty good. I don't think I need video/color screen support. I mean to me it would just be a music player.

... but there is something to just selling it and keeping the money for other stuff... I need some Azenis for autocross.... hmm....

i have a black 60gb ipod, and i really like it. since i've gotten it, i listen to it all the time.

seeing as how you have a larger capacity ipod instead of a 1gb or 2gb nano, the only interface you need for itunes is to get those songs on there. once they're on, they aren't going anywhere, so why do you need more itunes?

i know that i've used itunes for a total of less than an hour for the 3 months i've had my ipod.

once for a decent amount getting the bulk of my songs imported and transferred. after that, it takes all of a couple minutes to import some new songs (a ripped cd, downloaded music) and transfer them over.

money is always good though.

I vote for selling it and keeping the money for somehting else. Personally I would never use any of the portable players, but I'm a bit of an audiophile and just can't stand the poor quality of the lossy storage formats, be it iPod AAC or any of the MP3 forms, give me good old Wave or FLAC any day, just need a big ass hard drive for it(shocked) . If you will actually use a portable player then i would probably keep the iPod, as there are tons of accessories for it and it is an almost universally supported product. Just convert your MP3s over and be done with it.

The only use I have for my player is to download some internet radio broadcasts (not really podcasts) from some stations in Europe and play them during the day.

So long as you said FLAC (or even AIFF); Sony's ATTRAC gives me the heebee jeebees....
