Invisible bra, rock protection....

I have brought this up a few times before, mostly because the front of my car looks like it has been through an arabian sand storm, but I have been looking at the clear bras for rock protection. 3m, makes their rock guard obviously, this place I found has premade kits for the p5's as well as almost all other mazdas and the prices arent horrible, considering the paint jobs you could be saving, anyway I am planning this as soon as I get my car detailed and wanted to give everyone else a heads up.

ps: Im still going with bluebatmobiles fog covers and Im gonna see if he will make full headlight covers in clear since he supports and visits the forums.

It should protect it pretty well. The BIG challenge is to get it on nicely without trapping bubbles in it. I think they have some sort of "positioning spray" that allows you to slide it around once you put in on the hood. Then you'd squeege the bubbles out, and wait for the stuff dries out.

I've heard nothing but good things about this system. I've been trying to motivate myself to protect the front of my P5, but the racer in me ends up spending the money on the Miata. Honestly though, I think it's money well spent. I wish I'd had it installed shortly after I bought the Protege. Considering that the front of the Protege isn't too bad yet, I still want to get the film installed in the very near future.

looks like a good idea. I'm just worried about application of the film...keep us posted on how it goes! I've heard good things about the stuff. The only downside supposedly is that up close your paint looks a little different - less polished than w/o. supposedly...

well it says it is tested to withstand an impact of an average sized rock at 120mph without damage to your paint or glass/plastic beneath the film. SO I know I should never have a problem, it is going to be a little while though cause I will first have the front end of my car detailed. I dont wanna put this on over all the little chips, and having lived in the AZ desert the first 6 months of my p5's life it has a shitload of chips in it.

Only option I have looked at besides this is some local body shops will carry 3M's ricochet material which is basically the same as this stuff, I heard you can buy it in straight rolls for cheap and cut your own out, might get one of the packages I listed above and finish it with a little film Ill buy on the side.

oraacle can find invisible bras, he's good with those things lol

your local tint shop can do this- my friend got his wrx done and it only ran him 130-150 when he got his tint job done. Like has been mentioned carefull with the bubbles, it's just like applying tint

my dad had somethin' like this on his car b4...but the clear film started to change from clear to yellowish clear...which looks really really bad, it shows 2
tones of colour...so beware...i know that the 3M stuff gaurentee that
their products won't turn yellowish...

p5sundevil,

If you want to get the clear bra then check us out. We are in Redmond as well. We can also get you the blue fog covers and clear headlight protection.

Full kit which is more coverage and better design that MIShield for $168. Check it out http://www.rockblocker.com

As for the comment I saw about the product making the color of the car look duller. Actually it is the other way around with the film we use, 3M. It has a clear coat finish on the film so now you have two layers of clear which on some cars can make it look brighter than the paint that is unprotected.

There are some films out there that can make the paint look duller such as Achilles, Venture Shield and Avery.

If anyone has any questions please let me know. More than happy to help.

hey ruacop - I checked out the website. I might try this out. I live in Seattle, so I'm pretty close. The foglight overlays look really good - they make your fogs look whiter, huh?

Hell yah Ill be stopping by, especially once I get my car detailed for all the chips and scratches it has I am probably going to go towards a full bumper cover, including my autoexe grill, to protect it from all the chips it has had so far. Ill have to stop by and get some estimates.
