This thread is just to get opinions on what people think are better. Turbo's with internal wastegates or turbo's with external wastegates?

From what I have gathered internal wastegates stick alot more then the external's. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

If you can get a manifold you can hook up an external WG to then I would do that. I have had some issued with my internal WG on my stock turbo. It wasn't closing all the way and causing a lot of lag. I took the turbo off and beat the hell out of it with a pliers and the car works great but now I'm left with too much boost spike which an external would prevent.

I'll have to get an all new set up all together right to have an external or is there someway to bypass the internal and run an external? I don't have a stock MSP turbo? It's a hi boost kit. What i really want is a stock MSP manifold and GT28RS the stock turbo with the upgrade I've seen people talking about on a different thread.

external FTW!!! you could possibly weld a flange onto your stock manifold to fit an external wastegate, and weld your wastegate flapper on your turbo shut (if it is internal). this would be a good idea, BUT the welded flange on the manifold will probably break. although you could probably get away with it for 5k+ miles or so if your lucky. so i guess rig up the stock mani and save up for a good manifold to put on asap.

reason i say it will break is that i've had 2 friends do it on dsm's on their stock manifolds. lasted a while but the corrosion and rust that had built up on the mani over time (cars were like 7 and 9 years old at the time), even tho sanded down to metal, had to have an affect on it. they lasted for about 4k miles or so each, while also being driven in winter so i guess thats something to look at as well. either way only count on it as temporary.

Did they do a stainless steel weld? If so then if they primered them and had them ceramic coated they shouldn't of had any kind of problems, I wouldn't think.

External wastegates are always best. However, they are a bit hardcore to run on the street with a daily driver - internal wastegates help keep the noise (and fumes) under control.

Are those your two cars? If so those rims are sick. HOLY s*** they look good. What kind are they?
<br>I'm about to redo my set up so I'll keep this info in mind thanks.

i think this lies entirely on what you want out of your car. if its just a street car with some pep, an internal will get the job done just fine.

Yeah it's just a street car. I guess I'll just keep trying turbo's untill I find the right one.
