interior painting

I used spray paint, Interior Plastic paint. 1 coat of Primer, 4 or 5 coats of paint, 2 clear coats. Just make sure to tape off anything you don't want paint on and be careful when sanding. I have a carbon fiber trim on either side and accidentally sanded a little bit of each side. Should have taped off everything before sanding/painting. There's a couple How To's on taking the dash trim out.

I will give you the same tip as SloPro5. Interior painting is usually not a very good idea, especially if you have no painting experience. I tried to do my door panels and it turned out horrible. It is just temporary though, as all amateur painting should be.

I wouldn't say that. My first 2 pieces didn't come out very well, but the rest came out great. SOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than the normal interior. The only mistakes I made was I didn't fully sand the first two pieces and I put very heavy, dripping coats. All you need is a full sanding and 6 or 7 light coats and it will be fine. I love mine. Remove all pieces too. Don't paint any in the car. They all come out easily.

yeah i agree.. maybe u guys didnt put primer then sand it...then put your coat like volley2 said more that 5 coats you'll be fine..

I just suck at painting. Couldn't get it right. I think now I will sand everything down so that there is no texture, and paint it with exterior paint for that fiberglass look. Looks awesome when done.

I too want to paint interior pieces, but another factor comes in to play--heat and humidity. It can be 92 degrees here and with the humidity, it will feel like 105 degrees. Do chemicals like ArmorAll or in my case First Place vinyl/leather conditioner affect it? I just want to do around instrument cluster and also trim where the LED is mounted on, outer AC vents, and trim around door handles, window controls and locks. I am afraid of screwing it up too. I have seen some bad paint jobs in my time.

I did all those things. My car has gotten pretty damn hot and I haven't seen any deterioration in the paint. As long as you take your time and follow the steps I mentioned above, you should be all set. I also use Armorall Wipes to clean them and that works fine.

I used Krylon Primer/Paint/Clearcoat, but there aren't many color choices and mine didn't match perfectly (laser blue)

laser blue is exactly what I want to paint mine! :D I figured every one with black proteges go with red or yellow, so I will go with blue. Also did my groundkit with blue wires so when time comes for engine dressings, blue and chrome will be the thing. I chose blue because of my amps too (SoundStream) and at one time had the SPL12's which where in blue lettering on the dust caps.

I hear Krylon is best to use too! Got any pics or website?

i got the midnight blue paint.. I used krylon and eventhough its hot doesn't come off or smell bad.. cuz i put clear gloss after.

does anyone know where i can get a good match for my pillar pod? In a spray can.

I just got some laser blue mica paint from here. http://www.paintscratch.com/ If you specify its for plastic they add something to make it flexible. I havent used it yet, but for you guys looking for a perfect match blue. here ya go.

Yeah, use that. I've heard of others using that and saying it matched perfectly. It gets annoying when I see the 2 different blues.

i got the blue for my upper front part of my grill, and possibly my strut bar.

i need the color gray for my pilar.
