Does anyone know how to get the cowl panel off so that I can get at the fixing bolts? Those fasteners that look like black screws holding the panel in place are not screws, and aside from breaking off the heads I don't know how to get them off. (shrug)
I Did the tightening of the bolts on mine this evening. Several were fairly loose.
The trick with the clips is to turn the screw head just a bit. Turning it causes the center part to pop up some and then you can pry it a bit more up and then the whole clip releases.
The hard part there is on several of mine when I tried to turn the screw head the entire clip turned. So I had to hold the outside of the clip in place and then turn the inside. Some popped right up and others still needed a little prying after. They only come up a little bit but that is enough to stop them from spreading the bottom part of the clip so they will slide out.

Strange thing is it started only when the weather got colder, never had a problem from August to end of October.
Where were the tightening blot in your car?
Anybody experiment a sound when accelerating like a triiiiiiiiiiii. it's very annoying when the music it's at off...
I got a new plastic rattle noise coming from the center console. I found a thread here in the forum about how to remove the center console and the noise that I'm seeing is in the exact same area where the screwdriver is on the picture below (not my pic):

If I put my hand on that side of the center console the plastic rattle goes away and as soon as I remove it is back.
Would probably take that piece off and see if there something that i can find that could be causing the problem but I wanted to know if somebody had seen this issue.
Thanks
Unfortunately, this seems to be a common theme here with the CX-5. Lots of intersecting plastic panels on the interior make for plenty of noise opportunity as the ambient air temp drops. By and large, I think we're just going to have to get used to it!The cracking occurs in about 40F and below. Once it gets warmer it disappears.

Neither my wife's '06 Miata or my old '07 Frontier king cab p/u had the sheer number of squeeks/rattles/buzzes I have heard in this CX-5 in the last 4 months. I kind of write it off to early production development issues and the sheer expanse of plastic in the interior compared to those smaller cabins. BTW: what is "friction tape"?But pretty much all cars interiors are mostly plastic and snap together anymore. Even the 'soft touch' materials have hard plastic underneath.
From what I've seen it is a lack of added material between the surfaces. There needs to be more material lining the areas where the parts connect. I've had good luck squeezing in little pieces of friction tape between the parts to stop the noises.
I've got pictures from my latest rattle to post later where they clearly skimped on the padding and adding my favorite friction tape stopped it. It does get a bit annoying, my Tacoma rattled like a child's toy but it was well under half the price of the CX5 so I figured it wasn't too unexpected.
