If the theft is a crime of opportunity then I would guess the perp's wouldn't bother with this sophistication or care what kind of car it was. Anything is vulnerable.
If they do have the wherewithal then they're likely part of the the 'business' and the CX-5 isn't even on the radar screen, nor is Mazda.

Notice number 10 a Maxima is a small fraction of the top 2 both Honda and totals only 6,500 units per year.
Imagine Billy Banger, an entrepreneur, ripping off cars for a living and he just got set up to hack codes. Mr. Banger rips off a nice CX-5 and runs it into the auto shop full of Accords and Civics for payment for a hard days work. Guido (the owner of Midnight Auto Supply) laughs and says "What is that, is your girlfriend pregnant or something?" If Guido does buy at all it'll be a small fraction of the Civic that was only 3 parking spaces away. That is the last CX-5 Mr. Banger will jack.
The CX-5 holds it's resale value in the narrow Mom and Pop market it appeals too. For some odd reason we all expect a clean title and have insurance to repair any boo-boos to our cars. Civics, well try to find one, just one un-molested by a teeny-bopper on Craigslist. Do they know (care) where that V-Tech, LSD, Si seats, rear spoiler, wheels, stereo, etc came from?
Can't see much mass appeal on the illegal parts, chop shop or export market for a CX-5... Maybe a joy ride is about it.
