I am going to be looking at 2001 MP3, with ~88k this weekend and i just wanted to know is there anything specific to look for that will show, this car is in bad shape, or it is in good shape. Something different than the normal test drive checklist type stuff. And I read about the clunking, can someone explain that. I googled it and it said that it is the rear strut (which is what? :D) sticking and all you have to is grease it. Is that true to the mp3?
Thanks.

look for rust along the rear wheel wells, under the car, etc. There are probably other things as well, but can't think of them right now

As for clunking, it has nothing to do with the struts. It has to do with the mounting points of the rear sway bar, and no you CAN'T avoid it. If the car doesn't have it, it will soon, unless it has the fix which is sold through a vendor on these boards.

Best of luck :)

yea theres a clunk fix offered by evolv on this forum. had it installed and it never clunks again! and the new parts come with greasable nipples on the bushings.
