intake question

hey all,

my friend has a 2001 mp3 2.0l 5 speed i think and he's lookin to add an intake. I'm not too familiar with this car so i thought i'd ask here. I saw on the sticky that AEM makes a short ram but when i go to online retailers their listings confuse the hell out of me. So basically what i'm wondering is, is there a short ram intake for the mp3? I was lookin on ebay and someone had an auction for a k&n intake system....would that work for his car? Does it matter if its an auto or manual? Anyone know of the best place online to purchase a short ram if there is one? Sorry for the newbie question...just trying to help a friend out and thought this was the best place for that kinda info! Thanks in advanced!

AS for your questions...YES there is a short ram for the MP3. When it comes to these things and you are looking in catalogs, or on line stores you just need to make sure the year, engine size and the type of tranny match up when you are talking about intakes...as the same intake will fit the MP3, the P5 and all the regualar Proteges of the same engine size and tranny type.

As far as the BEST place online to get one...you will just need to shop around after you make a final decision as to the brand and type you want. There are quite a few different brands...and the main difference between them all is their styling....color, that sort of thing....performance wise they really are nearly identical.

As fore the K&N system you saw...I can't say....if you can match up the three things I mentioned before...then yes...if not...your guess is as good as mine.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Its greatly appreciated and the people here seem really cool.

As for the posting, I wasn't sure whether to post in the MP3 forum or in the performance section.....and since this was related to just the MP3, i figured i'd post here. Sorry if it went to the wrong forum.

hehe, and i admit....i didn't do a search. Was lazy.

But definitely thanks for the advice sir nuke. I'll go search some older threads now and check out some other online retailers where the criteria matches the specs on my buddie's protege.
