Intake Mods-Are they worthwhile?

You're kidding right? You know the MS CAI was recalled for causing a Lean issue right? Might want to look into that

Mazda is working on a fix for this as we speak...he can get an ms cai on ebay but will most likely throw a code. If you want to hold on to your warranty wait until mazda fixes the issue, buy the new intake then have the dealer install it. It whooshes and rumbles and really sounds incredible. You can really hear that bpv every time you shift under moderate acceleration.

I purchased my MS CAI right after I bought my ms3. I don't know why there are so many haters out there against it. I haven't had any problems with the intake and when it rains down where I live the streets flood. So I've drove through some pretty deep water. I wouldn't purchase any other intake out there. Sounds great too, and I get better gas mileage, oh yeah the power difference was a big improvement as well. As far as them selling them again, they are down where I live. So it might be where ever you are at

MS CAI= greatness

I've had an MS CAI for the last 25,000 miles and have never had an issue. I idle at a constant 14.7. WOT and it dips into the 10s and lower.

MSCAI honoring factory warranty FTW

Cobb voiding factory warranty FTL

Not really, dealers don't seem to mind around my parts. Just check with your local dealer because wasting money on MS CAI that has been proven to cause issues.

Yes the cost of the MS CAI is more but at least I have peace of mind in knowing if any issue arises I'm covered. Plus you're paying more for an actual CAI and not a little SRI that grabs hotter air....

I also won't absorb any cost related to problems associated with my car if dealers pull the whole 'mod' card (which they seem to do more often than not) and try to pull my warranty. They installed it, so if anything happens they have to fix it without any extra cost on my end.

At a dead stop, maybe. But you're telling me that when driving the air in the engine bay is any different? This had been proven wrong time and time again with dash hawk logging.

Research FTW
Hating on something you don't have just because FTL

I'm not hating and your post just proved my point about heat.

MS CAI warranty covers only the part itself. If you hydrolock your engine you're on your own.

Yes, and hydrolock is a user error for a really stupid person who doesn't know that driving through a massive puddle will result in possible hydrolock... hydrolock is not a manufacturing error.

So are the numbers from the cobb the only ones that are at the wheel? are the numbers for say the injen cai at the crank then?

I've seen several posts regarding the CAI and the Cobb SRI. What are the actual, true power gains with these mods? The Cobb website shows a dyno run at high altitude with a gain of 11 HP and 16 ft-lbs torque.

That seems like a small gain. What do all of you say--is the intake mod worthwhile?

Hey, I don't want to be a pain in the ass, but I'm wanting to know which report is correct... street unit dot com has the ft-lbs at 11 and the HP at 16 for the gains.

I also have some questions about the ms cai and how it pertains to other intakes. As I've read through this thread I can tell there are quite differing opinions and it seems it causes some rivalries. Since I'm focusing all my attention on my audio/video mod at the moment I haven't worried too much about the performance just yet. My sales guy tried to sell me the ms cai and exhaust just last weekend, so at least up in NH it's still available.

My questions are what are the differences in prices for the ms cai and exhaust after install and other equally comparable products? Also, I understand that doing the ms route saves the warranty, but is the quality of the product and performance similar to other products on the market or are you just paying for more warranty again? Also, are there multiple ms intake and exhaust options or just one? I'd ask my dealer, but I don't want to hear the guy blabbing all over again without me knowing some things about it first.
