I just installed my intake manifold a few weeks ago. Nick at Modern Performance ported and polished it. It's an MP3 manifold and now I have an extra MP3 manifold I was going to get ported and polished and sell to someone.

Here's some pics of the port and polish job I got done. I can also post pics of my non-modified MP3 intake manifold for comparison.

Looks like Fade is buying my intake manifold. I will check with MPNick to see how much it is for the port and polish because I don't remember.

I believe it was roughly 220 with VTCS removal. Obviously getting the answer from the source is better... but i'm pretty sure the bill was about 220 on that.

It did not have VTCS. It is an MP3 manifold.

was the one you had ported originally... the one from Jeremy... an MP3 mani? otherwise I may be thinking of any extra labor associated with taking out the VICS for porting.. and then putting them back in.

Alrighty... so I was following it ok and not totally losing my mind :).

Flat_black... any progress on those specs you want for the stacks?

Turf: Naw, didn't grab the measurements last night. The only Windows machine in the house tanked last night (dead hard drive. Sucky), so I couldn't use Solidworks. =/ Since it might be a while, I'll just get the measurements out, and explain what I want once I'm home. Sorry for the delay, though! So, what're the details on the casting that this guy does? Just investment cast/sand cast stuff, or what exactly? =)

Ahh.. you use solidworks... what version? I"m running 2003... so I can send you native files then :)...

Basically they print a 3D mold off of whatever CAD file I give them with some special equipment... Then they turn around and make a part... pretty sweet :). No need to do all the extra "normal" steps and still get relatively precision parts! So it is actually a full mold.. so the parts will be nice! But done in one off shots.. so pretty damn cool.

Does everbody block off the holes between the ports, or has somebody tried it with just plugging the hole to the outside. Don't get into theory and crap, I know all that, I was just wondering.

Sorry, been a bad day. Damn 9th graders!

The hole to the outside would leave a huge vacuum leak. Very, very bad. The ones between the runners themselves can be safely left open.

No no, car runs perfectly fine, only upon initial start-up after I was done it acted weird. After that it was fine. I was'nt sure if mazda's were just like honda's (you can just throw a different ecu in there) unlike fords which you have to save pid and security data, etc etc on the wds and then install the new pcm, then transfer the data to the new pcm..or is the mp3 ecu like that?

If indeed it is not, how does the car run when it sees boost, I am not sure if they use some kind of missing link or something along that line for the mp3's when they are turbo'ed.

Dude, Fords are easy compared to the Mazda, etc.

Here is a comparison of the head and intake ports side by side... definitely some discrepancy :)

Jesus! Somebody needs to build a bolt-on intake for these cars! The head doesn't look half bad.

I am porting mine before taking off the other, so I am going to go 3/4 gasket size to be samf and to preven reversion. When I do the head this summer, then I can open it more.
