Intake Cone Shape Air Filter Replacement

misbehave

Member
I have a cheap E-bay short ram intake for my P5. But I think the cone shape filter that comes with it isn't doing a very good job filtering all the air into my engine.
I want to buy a better filter for it.
What brand of filter are you guys using?
Anyone use Ractive brand filter before?

So far I have seen the following brand avaliable: Ractive, K&N, Apex.
Which brand is good? (price VS performance)

Does AEM or Injen has their own cone shape filter too?

go ahead and get the K&N the ractive and weapon r and all the rest are usually foam s*** instead of cotton gauze pleats. They suck ass and will eventually fall apart. Its worth it to have a cleanable filter, and K&N is a trusted name.

I will sell you my K&N Ru 3580 for $25, I went witht he Injen and I don't need it anymore. It's for a 3" pipe, ut will tighten down on a 2.75" pipe as well. It only has about 1000 miles on it.

If you go to K&N's website, they list a few online vendors for their products.

any 3 inch opening cone filter will work, that ebay filter is fine though, just be sure you oil it, it dosn't come oiled, that's the only diff between the one you got and the k&n , the k&n comes oiled, they k&n isn't any better though, its alot to pay for pre oil. just buy some oil

Um...No. The filters off e-bay are PAPER, and CANNOT be oiled. K&N and other good filters, (I use S & B), are made of oiled coton gauze, and will trap MUCH more contaminates than the cheap imitations.

That is the most stupid statement that I have ever read on here. All the filters are different!!! There is a reason why K&N cost more than a $2 paper filter that you can get at Kragen or Pep Boys...

Yep all the ebay filters are not the same, mine from Sabre Motorsports is a metal mesh. Oil will not stick to this mesh. And just oiling up any filter will not work either, if you think so go out and oil up your stock one..see how well it holds to that.

Plus K&Ns do not come with the oil on them already, you need to apply the little package that comes with them.

As for oiling them go to a local car store, they should have the oil in a spray can form from K&N.
