2007 Nissan 350z
So, as some of you may have read, I am considering selling my 3 for either a 350z or rx8. I thought about insurance differences (being a 19 year old male), thought i would just do a quick online check. went to allstate.com and compared the 3 and 350z rates (even though mine will be different since I will be with my dads insurance). it says if I were to insure me and my 3 it would be $1260 every 6 months. for the 350z it said $1130!! Is this right??? I expected the z to be way more than the 3.

Well it also depends on how that car got its rating from the state. Because i know protege's rating here in texas didnt get that great so thats why mines a lil high. 230 a mo full coverage through State Farm 2,760 a year for right now and i turn 20 in a few months

make sure you thoroughly think this decision through. while its awesome to have an rx-8 (as i did before my 3), the actual costs of owning it was far more than i ever expected. im 26, married, clean record, and i was paying about $25 more per month for insurance. that isnt much more, but the big expense, depending on how much you drive, is gas. i drive about 30-35 miles per day to and from work 5 days per week plus i usually took it when i went out on weekends. doesnt seem like a lot, but i was filling up every 3 or 4 days. as everyone knows, the rx-8 only takes premium which at the time was $3-3.50/g. all in all, i was paying about $250 per month in gas alone which is just ridiculous imo. on the other hand, i spend about $100 per month on gas for the 3 with a lower car payment and lower insurance premium.

driving the rx-8 may make you the coolest kid (you are 19, correct?) on your block, but it will also make you the poorest if your parents ever decide that you need to take over the payment, insurance, and gas costs. that is, unless your parents hand feed you and pay for everything, which, if that is the case, i hate you and die. :)

I also found the insurance difference between the 8 and the 3 to be negligible when I was shopping.
The biggest deciding factors for me between the two were the additional $10K and the crappy gas mileage on the 8. I hear that most people are only getting 15-18 mpg!

I already make my own car payments and insurance, pay for my own gas and everything else. I do still live at home but pay for everything else on my own. I am leaning toward a 350z over an rx8 just cuz rx8s seem to be EVERYWHERE around here

Keep in mind that the 350 is only a 2-seater (if that matters to you).

Just got an official quote from my insurance. To switch directly from my 3 to the 350z SAVES me $27/month on insurance. Not what I expected.

Almost an advantage to me. I hate going places with my friends and them having me drive since I have a 4 door......

how much are they giving you for your 3?
how many miles?
I blue booked my car for 18940 and want to sell it private. I think I could get 18k for it since it has just over 7000 miles and I have put about 4k into it.

Look heres a little trick, get your dad to put himself as the primary driver of the car, or mom whoever has had less tickets etc. i just got a 03 protege es and it was showing my rates to be 2000 every 6 months, im also 19 male, and i have had two tickets, one for 9 over, and the other was a reckless driving lol... but yeah have your parents put themself as the primary driver of the car and tell them to put you as just a driver on the insurance, not as a primary driver of any car, mine is now only about $40 a month for insurance, what a difference lol.

I use www.esurance.com, Forbes magazine rated them very good. They very inexpensive because they have no agents and everything is done over the internet. By cutting costs in printing and mailing and dealing directly with the company instead of an agent, they are able to offer very good rates.

the bastards don't insure in my state... wtf is with that?

they must hate the northeast lol... thats a hard decision to choose between the rx8 and the 350z. the 350z is a very sweet car but you can't see jack out the back of the car. the rx8 is also a sweet car if you've ever heard it red line its beautiful. i personally love rotaries and would chose the rx8 over the 350z. also having a 2 seater would suck because you lose all that storage space.... i mean place for 2 more passengers. in the end it might be cheaper to get the 350z because the engine will probably outlast the rx8.

I just want something faster.

As for the decision between rx8 and 350z, unless I can get an 06 rx8 for about 24k (which is very possible since I know the owner ofa local dealership) I am going with a z.

if ur gona spend that kind of $$$ y not go w/ something already turbo?? like a WRX STI or EVO???

thats a huge price jump to an sti or an evo. and they both cost ridiculous amounts of money to keep running on the road. although the regular wrx wouldn't be a bad choice...
