Installing Aftermarket Radio

Protege5
Hi,
Purchased a JVC Head unit for my mp5.
There's a diagram on the box for the unit but I'm not so sure all of the color coded wires will all match up. Anyone have/know where i can find a diagram for the factory stereo in the p5? (02 p5)
As well, do you think its best to just crimp the wires with but connectors or take the time and sauder/heatshrink the wires together?
Btw...save the hassle of buying the removal tools, and use 4, "U" shaped coat hangers. Does the trick.

buy a harness adapter from any local audio store so you don't hack up your factory harness. Can't help you on the diagram though. Sorry

Is there a specific one that will connect onto my factory Mazda connecter, so all i have to do is connect my JVC wires into it?

Yes, ask a local audio shop for a harness for a 2002 protege 5. They will get the harness that matches the factory harness connector. Then wire everything up from that adaptor to your headunits harness

you never want to tear up the oem harness. specially on newer cars. there is an adapter you get (not the one that comes with the radio) that you solder to the radio harness that you got. You could probably get the harness adapter at freakin walmart.

thats what it looks like. solder that to your radio harness that you got. Don't screw up your factory harness

The person that owned my car before did this... they didn't buy a harness, they used wire taps and tapped into every wire before the connector... freaking idiot

WOW.

Save the headache and use the aftermarket harness.. it will snap straight on to your existing factory harness, then will have open ended wires to attached to your JVC harness. It's a $5 middle man to save you from cutting up your existing harness & wires.

thanks.. although it's not me.. i found it online somewhere and had to have it.. haha

We'll i was worried i wouldn't find the right harness...but i screwed around and stumbled on the right one. Going in today. I'll be happy when its done. Hate driving around with headphones on.

Yah I tried making numerous sets of the "coat hanger radio removal tool" and after spending a couple hours frigging around with the jury-rig crap, I caved and bought two sets of Ford radio removal tools. The proper tool took me 10 seconds to remove the stock head unit.

That being said, if you had one tool to use as a example for making coat hanger tools, it would probably be easier than not having anything to base the coat hanger on whatsoever. By the time I gave up I didn't care about buying 2 sets, I just wanted to get the project finished.

Thinking about hooking up a 12"kenwood sub. But im worried about oveloading my alternator.
What amp can i run safely with my stock alternator without cooking it?
