Installer Wasted 7+ Hours of My Life...

I went to a place here in Miami, Senor Stereo, and after being there for 7 hours(I was the first one in the door) I was told that they could not upgrade my 2008 CX-7 unless I replaced bought both new speakers and an amp to power them.

Right now I am feeling extremely PISSED OFF at having my time wasted.

They are telling me that the headunit I purchased, the Kenwood DNX7100, was not powerful enough to drive the current speakers in my car and that the speakers, since they were only 2 ohm, weren't capable of being driven by an aftermarket amp. They said that if they continued to use the Bose speakers they wouldn't last a day before getting blown out.

Is this true? I have seen other posts, such as CXRabbit's, where the installer only had to re-wire the EXISTING speakers directly to the headunit.

Am I missing someing?

No, they could have powered them from the H/U, they might have distorted more at High volumes, but they would have worked, go somewhere else and let them know what the problem is, and a shop that wants your money will do it for you just fine.

It's actually the opposite, the speakers are going to draw more power from the H/U.

People should have avoided the Bose altogether.

Thanks for the info. Hell, I might just end up taking this to Best Buy. The thing is I wouldn't even mind getting an AMP but replacing both the AMP and all of the speakers seemed like they were talking out of their backsides.

No problem, it sounds kind of odd that they took all that time, to tell you that a Bose system runs @2Ohm, because nearly allll of them do.

bose system

I didn't want the bose system in my car but they only had 1 car on teh lotin blue and I got it for a good deal and pretty much didn't pay for the stereo since I got it for 1500 under invoice last month. I wanted the regular stereo so I could put my old panasonic TV/nav and stuff in but the bose isn't so bad but its not what I'm used to hearing from my car.

if your gonna do it though do it right... Stereo around 600 bucks if not a TV 2000 if its a nav unit no cheap crap...
do a 5 channel amp for around 900 or so and all new speakers ran fresh from the new amp 500 bucks nice set of subs either 2 12's or 3 10's 350 or so in a box...
will be the best 2-3 grand you will spend if you like your music in your car loud and clear

I might end up doing this sooner then later cause sirius sux compared to XM programming for what I like to listen to mazda doesn't offer third party XM adapters =(
