Installed my RX-8 wheels tonight

Wow, really? Two people without rubbing issues? My car's suspension is completely stock. The tires are 225/45/18 Dunlop (factory RX-8 tires). I only rubbed when I had 4 other people in the car with me, and while turning. Do I just have fat friends or what?

Hmmm.... I really want to get to the bottom of this, I like the look of the beefier tires.

I've only had one passenger in the car and my autocross stuff in the back; cooler, helmet, number magnets, racing shoes, etc...

Maybe the issue is when there are passengers/weight in the rear...

Interesting because I plan on lowering the car at some point and do not want issues with these wheels/tire!!!!

I had 5 people (4 male, 1 female (uber sausage fest I know :()) in my car, stock suspension, and it did not rub one bit. Some thing might be out of spec, or maybe the suspension in these cars have minds of their own just like the ECU's.

You should be able to see where it rubbed in the fenderwall if you pull one of the wheels off.

Those definitely should have been the stock MS3 wheel. Looks mint! (2thumbs)

Maybe because the tires are so new, when they wear down it'll rub less?

I'm reaching for answers at this point but maybe? (scratch)

Thanks for letting me know.

You are DRIVING my car!!! :) :)

I kept my wheels from my RIP RX8 and and I installed them in my CB MS3 500 miles after I got it. 10K miles later I am still in LOVE with these wheels!!. Funny though I am actually looking for a set of tires since the Dunlops are pretty much toast.

So I went back to the stockers, since I kept them and definitely the car looks soooo diferent. Somehow I like the stock wheels now that I went back. No way I'll sell my RX8 wheels but I am trying to get a set of 235 or 245.

BTW, I never had an issue with rubbing.

I am also looking into the idea of lowering the car 3/4" and powder coat gunmetal.

Congrats,
Carlos

One more cause I'm obsessed. Hope you all don't mind.

Just took it tonight, but the weather really wet. I liked the look of all the steam from my exhaust. (evil)

Thanks for all the feedback so far.

I too have no problem with rubbing with my RX8 rims wearing new 225/45-18 S0-3 Pole Positions, even with 2 people in the backseat. If you have rub in turns only, a stiffer rear swaybar may help you out.

Rx8s on 215/40/18 w/ H&R coilovers set at a 2" front / 1.75" rear drop. Occasional rub only under certain conditions...reversing up a slight incline, turn full lock with 2+ passengers. Rubbing occurs at the front wheels on the plastic inner fender lining.

Looks very attractive! how do you feel about performance of H&Rs? I am considering them right now.

They look so freakin' nice, too bad Mazda couldn't have made them directional... Still, that's a tiny little thing that most people would never even notice.

Those have been on backorder for months! i ordered them then found out. Save yourself some loot, gain some adjustability and go with the BC coilovers. Check my thread for pics...its in this same section

God damn do I ever like the look of those on the speed 3s. I have them on the ole MSP and love them to death. The one thing the pictures cant ever show is how crazy they look movin. I didnt know til the other day I saw an rx-8 drive by and wheels just look sick rolling. Not many wheels do more than look like a blur.

Sok07, your car is what helped me decide that RX8 wheels are right for me. The look of them on a dropped suspension is amazing.

So how do you get the fog lights on with just the parking lights, no headlights?

Wohooo, I'm excited. I found a great deal on Craig's List for some 18" RX-8 wheels yesterday. I wasn't planning on getting wheels so soon, but the deal was too good to pass up. They are nearly brand new, only used for about a month and came with factory SP Sport 8090 (225/45/18) which are also new. The rims are in great shape, there are a few small nicks, but nothing noticeable at all. I talked him down to $600 for everything. Seemed like an amazing deal so I met him tonight, and put them on.

Here are some pics:

Not the best quality pictures because my camera's batteries went dead after only two shots. I'll get some more soon.

I know the tires are a bit "beefy" compared to stock, but I personally like it. It helps fill in the fender gap of stock suspension. Longer term I would like to get a slight drop (MS Springs, or Cobb) and get the wheels powder coated light gun metal. I may have rubbing issues if lowered though... but for the price I don't care. Oh, they seem to have TPMS installed as well, since I didn't get any indicator lights. Phew!

Well, thats all for now. Hope you guys like the new look.

awesome deal! i got mine on craigs aswell... only difference my Awesome deal was...$375 he started at 600 and got him down to 375.. perfect tires awesome condition rims =) (first) yea n i rub as well it gets annoying after a while and ur plastics inside the fender are goin to start breaking so do what you can to fix it.. i havent done anything yet bc i have no $$$ but my bro might buy speed3 rims n im gonna put em on my 3 till i get $ for smaller tires. right now i have 225/45/18 thinkin of going with 40s
