Installed JBarone Short Shift Plate....

I know there have been a few reviews of this product but here's mine. I just finished installing the JBarone shift plate into my 08 Mazdaspeed3 and I am very happy with the results. I was worried at first because I have an aftermarket shift knob which is NOT weighted like the OEM knob.

Install was fairly straight forward. Since I have a MS CAI I just removed the MAF section to give me a little more room to work. JBarone provides awesome instructions and everything is all laid out so even someone with limited experience working on cars could figure it out.

The product itself is a quality piece. I dropped it during install and the paint held up. The bolts, loctite, and lube is all provided. It looks quite nice in the engine bay and matches my custom True Red MS CAI.

I love driving with this shift plate. Shifts are much shorter and more crisp. I don't race or drag my car as it is just a daily driver for me, and this is going to definitely make shifting more fun. Before the shifter felt sloppy and loose, but now it feels rock solid and more reassuring that it is in gear. I like the fact that the stock height is retained while proving the shorter shifts.

where do you get these plates and how much are they? does it come with that red shifter weight as part of the plate ?

Um...what is a short-shifter plate? Is it any different from a short shifter in function?

The shifter plate reduces the throw of the shifter. A short shifter reduces the height of the shift knob. Many short shifters do both.

Get out and drive that car!!

Installed this tonight and went for a quick drive. The shorter throw is very noticeable for me from 1st to 2nd gear. Going into 3rd is kinda vague, but all in all a definite improvement as far as the length of throw goes.

Great and quality piece; easy install (especially if you have a SRI or CAI - I have a cp-e SRI); and it definitely performs as advertised.

I'm glad everyone loves them. Thanks!

I'd like to see some pics. I'll use them on the website if you don't mind.

Thanks,
Jamie

zx2man,
Yours will go out today.

So far.......Impressions are good. I guess its taking some time to get used to, Cause there was sooo much slop in the shifts with the oem weight that this makes huge difference. The shifts are much short and crisp..and it took me couple times to shift in 2nd and go whoa is that it? hehe So I would give it a 8 out of 10 right now for improving the shifts on this car. Is it smooth as butter no, maybe a bushings upgrade would do the trick, which is my next upgrade. But for what this plate is made to do,which is to shorten your throw and make them more secure and less "effort" to get in gear..this product does it in spades and I highly suggest it to anyone who wants to dramaticly improve the shifting of this car for a modest price without going the short throw shifter route, and to preserve thier stock ride height of the shifter. *sidenote* install is extremly easy, and there are detailed instructions that come with product. Install time for me was 10-15 min.

zx2man,
Try this...Very close to butter.

Here is a video and it explains how to tune the shifter. I have done this, I know others who have done this with my plate and with short throw shifters, and believe me my car is so sweet to shift now.

Here's how to get in there. It's so easy.

1 - Remove your shift knob by rotating it counter clockwise
2 - Open the ashtray door and remove the ashtray
3 - Push the boot down and reach under the silver ring surrounding the boot and gently pull up. The cover will pop right off.
4 - Slip the trim with the boot off the shifter and set aside
5 - Reassemble in the reverse order

When making the adjustment to the shifter take your time. Make small adjustments. The end result is well worth the extra time you take to make it shift really nice.

I will post this on my site later today for future reference.

If you need help let me know.

Thanks,
Jamie
