Install time on Mazdaspeed CAI

Hey guys. How long is the dealer going to charge me for putting on a Mazdaspeed CAI on a 2007 Mazda 3 2.3 sedan? Thanks in advance! :)

dude, don't bother with dealer b.s. do it yourself. it can't take more than 2 hours tops. I did mine in like 35 minutes during my break at work.

The reason I'm going with the dealer is cause I want the dealer to warranty the install. Besides, I'm not a handy guy and have no experience with this sort of thing. Paying them would give me a bit of peace of mind.

will the dealer not warranty the install if i did it myself?

I would assume the dealer would charge you at least one hour...if not two.
They like to charge more than what the actual job takes; most mechanics are slow (well, its not their fault really since a 15 min job is listed as 45 mins; whos going to rush?)...

I'm 90% sure that:
{
once you drive the car away from the dealer it doesn't matter who installs the parts. The Mazdaspeed CAI has Mazda's "green" warranty which covers it for 12 months (from purchase I think). You wont gain anything from having a Mazda dealer install it.
}

If you're not mechanically inclined, see if you can get a friend to help ya (AKA do it for you while you watch). It'll be fun and you'll get to owe your friend "big time" (who doesn't want that?).

If that ain't an option, have it installed somewhere else, probably even a Minike(sp?) or Pep-Boys or something would do.

Oh, I wouldn't suggest that Pep-Boys or Meineke do the job... They are most likely not familiar with your car...though this is an easy job. The reason I say that is that I feel (from experience) that non-dealer mechanics don't care about your car and how its worked on. Most of these mechanics are young and inexperienced...same thing happens at the Mazda dealer too, but at least they get trained on Mazdas and hopefully made all their mistakes on someone else's Mazda...

If you "NEED" to have someone else do the job, stick with Mazda. At least there you can claim is something goes wrong. No body knows your Mazda better than Mazda...well, other than yourself... LOL

Sound reasoning... What's your opinion about a "trusted mechanic"? Like a person/shop you've had good service before.

What would be better: a non-mechanically inclined owner without experience or an experienced person who doesn't care more than what is required to stay employed..?

Are you in the SoCal area? I'd help you install it....

To answer your question on cost, it'll probably range from 80-99 bux an hour. It just depends on who your dealer is.

Also, according to the Parts/Service department manager, Mazda will warranty MazdaSpeed green parts, even if the mechs there didn't install it.

only probably and hour or 2 it took me a little longer cuase that blut nipple peice you have to snap it to the left 2 notches, the instructions don't tell you it snaps and i didn't want to break it, finnally I pushed har on it and it snapped other than that not much of a prob

Is that blue thing important for the install?

...non-dealer mechanics don't care about your car and how its worked on...

Dealer mechanics don't care either man...

When I worked at Mazda for CAI installs n s*** we'd just pull it into the wash bay then get one of the garbage guys or lot guys to put it on. It was sweet cause you got to take it for a "road test" after lol! That's actually why I quit there, they were taking customer's cars for joyrides to get lunch n stuff.

ms cai install

I let the dealer install mine even though I've done it to my pro5 and mustang. It was too cold to pull out the silencer and figure stuff out. They charged me 150 and i was able to watch the guy while he did it. I have an 05 mazda3 5door automatic and after a week of driving it, I'm not too happy on the low end. Looks great and sounds tough under acceleration. Smooth idle too. Hope this helps.

Those guys should be terminated.

So, did you get the intake side of your car taken care of?
Yes I did thanks ZooMIN3. I asked a guy at work and he suggested a mechanic that services all our company cars. He installed it for me for $70.00 Canadian. As far as I can tell he did a great job. Much cheaper than paying Mazda for doing it, and I also have the peace of mind it was done right by a qualified mechanic. Only got it done yesterday so I'm not too sure yet about gas mileage or gains but I'll let ya know when I see a change. Thanks!

I've never done anything like it before, but i took the plunge and did it myself. Thank god i did. Its not that hard just make sure you have some free time to do it.

the CAI install should not be a terrible ordeal. many people are simply intimidated by the idea of "ripping their car apart" and end up paying mazda to do it. the install is actually not nearly as bad as they usually think!

the MS CAI itself will always be warrantied whether you installed it yourself or had mazda do it, so save yourself a good 100-200 and do it yourself!
