Hey everyone...I got My a/f Meter and I am installing it but i have some questions!!

1. I can just plug into the 1st o2 sensor...the pink & blue wire?? I read that in the How to forum!

2. Well i installed it red to power..black to negative...and purple to that pink & blue wire...but for some reason..it just keeps on sweeping back & forth between lean & rich...it doesn't settle at all even at idle!!
:wtf:
Please Help
Chas

its supposed to do that.. mine does that, autometer SAYs its supoposed to do that.. and if you think of it logically it better do that or you have a problem

Yep, it's supposed to sweep back and forth from lean to rich because the ECU is constantly adjusting the fuel supply. When you go WOT, it should read all the way rich. When you let off the gas, it will immediately go lean. All normal.

yeah and if your on the highway and your past 4.5K rpms it should just stay at rich

So it's cool??

Ok...B/c I just went for a ride...and As soon as i started the car...and left it in Neutral..It just kept sweeping between lean & rich....there was no constant...Than..i put her in first gear..and went to WOT..and it went rich.....than i shifter into 2nd gear...and coasted..no gas or brake...and it read lean...like all the way lean..than i put my foot on the gas..and it just kept sweeping again between rich & lean...Should i has soldered(sp) the connection w/ the o2 sensor and the purple wire from the guage??

Thanks
Chas

ANother problem is that you bought a autometer a/f gauge they are crap......only thing that they are good for are a nice little light show.

As far as I know, you dont have to solder anything, but its not a bda idea, soldering is always better.

May I suggest you....get an EGT with warning light , this way you can monitor if the Nitrous shot is dammaging the engine before it blows up or melt something.

Yeap..i am looking into one of those..or a palm pilot..to use like linux...

the readings are normal
it will go all the way lean when you let off the gas because the ecu is programed to shut the injetors off untill it reaches idle in nuetral or throttle position increases in positive motion
damn emmision regulations
as far as the wiring i dont have the book here sorry but if your readings are like you discribe its fine

The A/F readings are normal.

Is it really an Autometer A/F. I have heard they are crap as well.

Anyway, soldering isn't necessary. If it reads now (which it does, you aren't going to get a better or different reading by soldering it). You will however have a more secure or better connection, but that goes without saying.

I have said it once I will say it again. 1. Autometer A/F gauges are crap and 2. A EGT gauge does nothing for you AT ALL unless you strap the car on the dyno and find out what temperature your motor goes lean and what temp your motor goes rich otherwise you are guessing your way to a blown engine.

Why do you say OR? The Nology thing won't do what an EGT will.

THANK GOD YOU CLEARED THAT UP!!!!!!!!!!! an EGT is NOT a good way to monitor A/F ratios. A wideband is!

Can i get some links...thanks...In advance..

Chas

P.S. Hey linux the w/ a palm pilot..can't i download software that can show me what's going on just like a wideband...As long as i get that connector that plugs into the obdII under the dash??:D

Well the software is written to be used with the Tech Edge WideBand O2 setup. I have it on my palm now, but it is pretty much useless until I get my WBO2. I have to pay for my daughter's birthday comming up, so it's a no go right now.:D
