I have the injen CAI for my 02 protege ES sedan and last night i after 2am i was raing pretty hard and i drove thru several puddles went on the high way as well and several other roads. I was worried my intake was gonna suck up some water, but when i fianlly got home and pulled into the garage, poped the hood and looked down I didn't see any water and i crawled under and there was hardly any essence of water & the filter was fine but underneath the filter where there's that plastic plate thingie it was damp but no puddles on the surface or anything. :D

So anyway i was just wondering if the Injen by-pass value is really worth getting, (b/c it's like $40 some and thats kinda high)I know My filter will never be completely sub-merged under water so no worries there, and also i have heard the by-pass value is bad b/c we don't gain ant horses with it on our intake, is this true?

u mean AEM bypass valve?
cuz thats the only one i know of
and its worth it...... my buddy has blown an engine cuz of water

Yeah man i would get it. A buddy of mine has a AEM CAI and was lucky he put his by-pass on because he ended up in new orleans one weekend when it was flooding:eek: . Spending $40 is better than having to buy a new engine.

I have the Injen CAI on my car....and seeing as how you do to you KNOW where that filter is located....there is no amount of RAIN that will ever be a problem....

the only problem you could ever run into is to run your car into DEEP standing water.....and I don't know about you....but I wouldn't do that even if I had a bypass....under NO circumstances. I would rather pull over on the side of the road and take a nap as to do that to my car....

so NO, THEY ARE NOT WORTH THE MONEY....I have actually heard of people with them and TRYING to go through deep water sucking up water anyway.....they THOUGHT they were safe...

not to mention the BYPASS valve distrubs the air flow and can end up negating any positive effect that the intake gave you in the first place....ie, no power gain.

to sum it up....save your money....and stay away from deep water....your pro is NOT a jetski....don't use it like one.

Sirnuke you are 100% rite. The only way you can suck in water threw your filter is to have the car sumerged in water up past midway of the rim. I donno about you but that is NOT going to happen to my car!

my .02.

True enough, the likelyhood of wanting to submerge your car in water is nill. Given the chance, you won't do it. When in my maxima with a PRI CAI installed, I got herded into high water here in Houston and didn't submerge the filter but was in water past mid rim. I had the AEM bypass mainly because it was part of the setup when I removed it from the totalled donor Maxima. The flat edge of the K&N cone was damp but not soaked. I seriously doubt that I would have gotten any water and I didn't hear a sound change of the rubber flaps closing off the pipe (I tested the operation when I installed it and it does sound different)

It is possible in some situations (though the below 5% I bet to soak that cone). If you feel that nervous about it, buy the $45.00 dollar part and put it on. It won't restrict air flow or add horsepower but it might make you drive easier in rain. That will be your only real gain.
