thanks.

(uhm)

You throw a CEL because you hit the rev limiter? Never heard of such a thing. Plus, why would you want to get rid of it altogether? It would seem that if you regularly bounce off the rev limiter that it needs to be there so you don't rev to unsafe RPMs.

yes, every time i hit my rev limiter my CEL flashes, then stays on. i'm not worried about taking it over 7200...i'm constantly watching my tach...i'm just tired of having to reset the damn thing.

my CEL has never come on and I've bounced off the rev limiter on many occasions

sounds like there may be another problem

It almost sounds like an emissions thing. However, if you're full throttle while doing so, then this thought is moot (since the ECU goes into open loop (not looking at the O2 sensor) at WOT).

Have you tried pulling the codes?

You should not be hitting the rev limiter anyways.
No kidding. Why are you bouncing off the rev limiter anyways? Our cars make the most power around 6000rpm..not 7200rpm. Besides..hitting that limiter is bad for your car/tranny and whatever else. Slow down!

thanks twilight.

i hit it because my i make power past the rev limiter...if i'm not paying close attention to the tach, i'll hit it in every gear.

detonation isn't always audible...my suggestion would be to stop bouncing off a rev limiter...that's for beaters and rentals.

i didn't say it was detonation, just someones opinion, but you really need to stop reving it that high, you are going to bend a valve or something worse...go get the code checked next time it does that...

Why do you make your power past redline??

actually ive found out that the redline on the 02-03 mazda proteges are actually @ 7000 rpm..... something like mazda put it down to 6500 because over time cars that have higher redlines will break down faster than lower redlines... why do you think theres only 2 import cars with high redlines? Mazda RX-8 and Honda S2000.... anyways ive hit it all the way till the 7400 fuel cut off mark... nothing went wrong... i spun my front tires going 65 passing a car... i had my automatic in 2nd then when i shifted to D it missed drive and went str8 to Neutral... hahahha.. yeah i reved it all the way by accident.... then threw it into drive.... it was neat-o cuz my car jumped... but yeah now i just use the O/d off button to do my shifting... 3rd and 4th... dont wanna break anything...

uh, yikes? I hope you didn't slam it into D while your revs were still way up (confused)

and why the hell were you trying to shift your automatic like a manual? if you want to get your car to downshift (here's a novel idea) just floor it (hand)

yea seriously blinking is the last thing you want to seee... means your misfiring or worse... i suggest just have the code read.

also what plugs coils and etc are you running? Remeber as well at 7200 spark fuel cut should be in affect.

I remember people with aftermarket tachs or those PDA monitoring devices say that the actual rev limiter is 6750 in the Proteges.

The stock tach is not accurate up that high, so while it may read 7200 or whatever, it's actually at 6750.

But yeah, there really isn't a reason to go up to redline, after 6K power drops off pretty dramatically.
