Improving the P5's shifting

I bought a MZ3 shift knob. It weighs a lot more than the original 03 P5 knob and fits the thread pattern of the shifter.

After it was put on I noticed the shifting was MUCH smoother because of the added wieght. The 1st-2nd shift always felt knotchy with the other knob, but with this one it slides right into 2nd.

The MZ3 shift knob feels a lot better as well, as I find the 03 P5 one to be too big, but that's just personal preference. It also looks really slick!

If you want to improve the shifting on the P5 (or any 3rd Gen Protege for that matter), do yourself a favour and pick up a MZ3 shift knob.

Here it is. It looks a lot better than the stock one.

Thats a really good deal, but since i just bought the knob I'll keep my setup untill I'm tired of it.

what he was pointing you out to was not a new knob, but a new shift lever and bushings. a shorter shift lever would accept the knob you bought and shorten/tighten up your shifts

Thanks for the info....so most short shifters are threaded to accept the stock Mazda knobs?
