Important!!! Read this about our windshields...

Here is the deal. On Wed. I was driving and my windshield cracked. It is about an 8 inch crack on the right side of the windshield. I just assumed it was from a rock that was kicked up from the car in front of me. I made an apt. with a glass company to have the windshield replaced under my insurance. no big deal. Well I was driving again on Friday this time no cars were around. I was on the highway doing about 70 mph and I hear the windshield starting to expand. Well what do you know the other side of the windshield cracked. This time I was the only car around and I know for a fact nothing hit the windshield. This is 2 8" cracks within 2 days. This leads me to believe I have a defective windshield and the dealer should be fixing it not my insurance.

Anyone had the same problem?

Its stress cracking.
Do a search for "stress cracks" in this forum, and you should come up with a hit or two, happened to a few other people.
And yes, the dealer should replace it free of charge, no deductable.

I had a 1997 MX6 that did that THREE times. Twice just driving down the road and the third time pulling into the driveway. Dealer replaced it under warranty each time as there were no signs of chips rocks or debris.

My MP3 did this in the first month I had it.
I never knew it happened to anyone else though.
I had the dealer replace it once and it hasn't ever been a problem.

oh crap...

that sucks. I hope this never happens to me. At least i know if i ever get a crack that was my fault i can go complain at the dealer and try and get a new one under warranty =P

luck with getting a new one for free

I definately think I'm better off having the dealer replace it under warranty than my auto insurance. Either way it won't cost me any money out of pocket but I would rather have a record of this through the dealer. I'll have to swing down there tomorrow then and then cancel my apt. with the glass company. Just sucks that I have to deal with this. It wasn't even under any hard driving. I was just crusing along at a normal pace and all of a sudden it cracked.

I saw mine when I was leaving work but there was no sign of a hit mark, just a crack.

I got a fat crack in mine, but it did start with a rock... the damn thing hit under my passenger side wiper blade, and it cracked a few hours later....its all the way to the center of my window now

where I work It happened to a Mazdaspeed protege with 350 some odd miles so the dealership fixed it, same type of crack.

Now would I have a chance at getting mine fixed?? I mean the rock that hit it shouldn't have done the damage it did. I've ahd plenty of rocks hit my windows in many of my previous cars, and i haven't seen any that acted the way this one is...It cracked even more today...Does anyone know if there is any way I can at least stop it from cracking more????It's still headed towards my side of the car, and it's coming across the middle of the windshield, not going up or down, just straight across in a little zig-zag pattern...

No way to stop it from cracking, and if it is larger than a dollar bill, it requires replacement rather than repairing.

small stone cracked the fron window :'(

My car only have 2900 miles on it. Today I was driving on highway at 60 mile per hour, a small stone hit front window and created a 7 inch long crack. I have driven other cars for hundred thousand miles and have dozen stones hit but never encounter this. I think that this part in P5 is not a good quality one. Looks like very thin.

Have an appointment on Wed to have dealer check it out. Hope that warranty can cover it. Otherwise my insturance has 500 bucks deductible  .

Guess I'm lucky.
Had many many many rocks, bolts, screws, chunks of metal, and some object I couldnt tell hit me on the highway. No damage to window, and lucky it didnt strike the hood or bumper.
