Immobilizer indicator light question

Is the immobilizer indicator light supposed to flash constantly when there is no key in the ignition?

This has been happening on my car (sport GT) for the past couple of days but I don't recall it happening in the past. What I read in the manual is that it will flash with the key in the ignition and at the ACC position but will stop when you turn the key to the ON position. It doesn't say anything about it flashing constantly with no key in the ignition.

So, either I'm losing my mind (which is entirely possible) and this has been happening since I got the car or... I dunno.

Thoughts?

thanks,
ham

Mine blinks when the car is not on. I'm pretty sure it does so when the key is in the ignition, but not sure. I'm 100% certain mine blinks when there is no key in the ignition, and has since I can remember.

The light blinks when there's no key in the ignition switch. It does it to warn a thief that it won't start without the programed key.

Thanks status and ronh - I suspected that may be the case - just never noticed it in the first few monts I had the car I guess.

cheers,
ham

Just found this forum, just bought an old mazda 6 and noticed the light flashing and manual isn't very clear, thanks for the re-assurance that it flashes every couple of seconds , as panicked when I saw it.

Just for reference, mine doesn't blink when engine is on and according to manual, if it continues to blink with engine started then the system may have malfunctioned.

Is there any way to disable this god forsaken thing? I know I have obsessive compulsive tendencies, but this immobilizer light just drives me nuts. I just bought a new i sport, and when I'm on break, I always go to my car and listen to music. Unfortunately this thing has to distract me every two seconds. It's to the point where I spread a napkin over the gauge cluster just so I can get some peace.

wow..thats wild haha..

If you really want to do it you can disassemble the cluster and put a piece of electrical tape on the back of the gauge "face" where the immobilizer icon is. Basically the same thing putting a napkin over it does except you get to take stuff apart.
