Good evening and thank you for letting me join your wonderful message board. As the title of the topic says I must be blind because I can not seem to find the temperature gauge for my engine on my 2010 Mazda 3 Touring 4 dr i can see the temperature for outside on my display for the radio did i have to pay extra for that or am i blind? Any help or info would be much appreciated.

Thank You

It doesn't have one. It has a light that comes on when it gets too hot.

Yes I know it's a dumb thing to leave out, that is really the only annoyance I have with my gauges. If you had a scangauge, or a dashhawk they will display the temp.

Did I really just read that right? the 2010 model doesn't have a coolant temp gauge just a dummy light that comes on when its gets to hot??

Must've thrown of their weight distribution to put it in. Or they accidentally left it out so they could put that fancy boost gauge in the MS3. I've sure it was some genius move.

Thanks everyone that replied i thought i was going crazy because i thought that was something that was required on all cars guess not. I cant believe that how am I suppose to know if my car is warm enough to drive off when the cold winter comes or is the 2010 3 so advanced it doesn't need to warm up? lol

If it makes you feel any better, most temp gauges are really just analog idiot lights. Once the car warms up, they just sit dead center unless the car is really overheating. So the actual info conveyed isn't much more than an idiot light. As for the warm-up... well, aside from a few seconds for the oil system to pressurize and begin to circulate, modern cars really don't need a warm-up before normal driving. The critical factor for whether it's really safe to get on it is oil temp anyways.

It does suck that they are getting rid of a gauge though... if anything, I would think the trend towards more electronics under the hood would result in more info being conveyed to the driver, not less. I would've thought by now that every car would come equipped with something like a scangauge from the factory... just a couple-line LCD display where you could cycle through various readings.

Your car is warm enough to drive off the second you crank the engine. Modern cars do not need to warm up before driving and in fact the best way to get the engine up to temperature and waste as little gas as possible is to just start it up and drive off. Of course, drive reasonable when the engine is first started. Give it a few miles before any full throttle spirited driving.

I kind of like having my coolant gauge. The Boost gauge is a nice addition for the new 2010's but I would have preferred an actual gauge like the CSRT4 or Cobalt SS t/c's.

thanks for the info fellow board members i agree dmention I would have thought that if anything more gauges would be added to the cluster not taken away .

Lol, I can't believe it either. I thought I was going crazy. And, you should let the car warm up for atleast a minute when u get in. The oil needs to cycle through the whole motor otherwise excessive wear will occur.

Wow... I split my radiator a week ago and had I not had a temp guage I would have over heated badly. No way will I be trading (down) for a 2010 then. That is terrible. More idiot lights, not good.

I concur except I recommend starting the vehicle and let it idle long enough to fasten seat belt(s), check mirrors, and scan the instrument panel, and then drive. That should be plenty of time for the engine oil to hit the top end and begin lubricating the valve train....

I would rather have a temp gage and a charging gage than that useless tachometer. In my younger days of street racing, with a 4 speed, and a big block engine a tach was invaluable, but with a 4 cyl. auto its worthless.

eh even witha auto Id still like to have a tach. I know you dont shift it but it just feels wrong not having one. I think they ought to go to real gauges and not use these idiot lights.

In reality this is no different than alot of newer cars. I worked on a '09 Nissan Versa and how its coolant idiot light worked is it was blue when "OK" and would turn red when "Hot".
