Hey all,
I'm new here and I've been considering picking up an 07 MS3.
I've been around and in Subaru's all my life, so the decision is a tough one. I'm not totally sold yet, but I'm close. I'm currently in my 4th Subaru (one was a parts car though). It all started with a 95 Legacy (FWD and automatic). I got pretty sick of that, so I replaced it with a 1994 Legacy Turbo. After toying around with it, she spun 235whp and 265lb-ft at the wheels. I blew the tranny, and tossed in a dogbox (straight cut gears, no synchronizers) and would spin all 4 tires on the 1-2 shift and the 2-3 shift (with a dogbox transmission, you don't need the clutch to shift. Just barely lift the throttle and pull on the shifter, and it'll pop into gear faster than your mind can comprehend). I also converted it to RWD for a while, and it would spin 235-45-17 RA-1's through 3rd gear. The Legacy Turbo was turning into a race car, so I bought a 98 Forester for a daily driver. From that point on, the Legacy just sat in my driveway, so I sold it. The owner immediately put a 50-trim on it, and it spun just under 400whp. I've been in the Forester since, and while I love it, the boost bug is creeping back.
I was hoping to get some advice from those of you with MS3's to help my purchase.
Who has the OEM NAV option? Was it worth the $1800?
I'm torn between getting the OEM NAV, or getting a Double Din install kit and getting something like an Alpine Nav unit or a Pioneer AVIC D3.
Otherwise, I've pretty much got all the options figured out. I want a Silver Grand Touring package MS3 with an auto-dim/homelink mirror.
I am also interested in the Mazdaspeed forged 18's, which I might roll into the purchase. I haven't found my dealer yet, but the one I did talk to seemed reluctant to roll the wheels into the purchase price. Does anyone know the retail on the mazdaspeed 18's? And how wide a tire can you stuff under the stock fenders?
I'm also interested in the Mazdaspeed catback and the mazdaspeed intake. I figure it'd be safe to stick with Mazdaspeed to maintain the warranty. I haven't been able to find any sound clips of the Mazdaspeed exhaust though. Anyone have a clip?
I was also interested in the Mazdaspeed coilovers, but I want to hold off. On my test drive, I could feel the stock suspension bottoming out on a few road dips.
I live pretty close to TurboXS, and at my old job (at Andrewtech Automotive) I spent a lot of time working with TXS on various projects, and the owners MS3 is one reason why I decided to consider one.
Thanks for any help you all can give, and from what I've seen on here, there is a lot of knowledge out there! I can't wait to learn more!
