If you have an Aftermarket Remote start/Alarm I've got a question

So about a week ago I had a Compustar remote starter put in my 2014 cx-5. It was purchased/installed by Bestbuy as it is way too cold to be foraging under my dash right right now. This leads me to questioning if the install was done 100% correct or not. So to the people who have an aftermarket remote starter installed, when you leave you headlight switch in the on position, do you parking lights flash when unlocking/locking with the remote start remote?

The problem I'm having is that it seams like the BCM cuts power to the headlight circuit 30 sec after turning off the ignition and due to this I have no indication if my car unlocks after remote starting. The installers say this is due to the car, but I need more info before I accept that and go in search of a resolution.

Can anyone chime in?

Yes ours do. The parking lights are active when the car is remotely started, and will flash with corresponding lock/unlock commands. This is with the switch set to "auto". Not with the switch left in the on position though.

There are two parking light wires that need to be wired into at the switch on the column. It might be wired incorrectly or possible that the installer was lazy. One light input is just a standard negative switch. The other light input needs to have the circuit cut for the lights to flash. (more than likely to override the auto light setting) This needs to be wired up with a relay and diode isolated to prevent backfeeding between the two wires.

You can pull up the wiring diagram from whatever interface module they used to see how it should be wired. probably from http://www.idatalink.com

To specify the touring has the Auto-off feature. My car does not have an auto-on meaning there is not sensor to detect ambient light, but it will turn them off 30 sec after you kill the ignition.

I can hear the relay clicking, but obviously I do not know how they set it up until I can get under the dash and see. Unfortunately we haven't had a day out of 20 degrees in the last week or so. No way I'm working in those conditions for now.

Hopefully, it is just as simple as interrupting the parking light 2 wire and rewiring the relay. I guess I won't know until I can open it up. I'm wondering if it is wired correctly if I can integrate the hazards.

You could wire to the hazards, but they would continually flash while the car is remotely started.

I would keep the parking lights wired for when remote starting so the lights would be solid, but would use the horn or siren output from the brain to hazard switch for the unlock.

After looking at the wiring diagram for our cars it looks like the BCM is in full control of the parking lights and likely just cuts power to the circuit after 30 seconds. The front lights appear to be controlled directly from the FBCM which also drive the TNS relay for the rear lights. I could wire directly to the relay, but that would only help with the rear. Not sure how I would work the fronts.

Either the hazards can work or I'm just SOL.

I installed a compustar alarm + starter in mine this week. I didnt even bother with the parking lights. The BCM controls everything as needed without the compustar unit needing to think its in control. The lights flash when locking and unlocking, and obviously run if the car is running. A simple fix for you could be just snipping the parking light wire coming from the CS unit. Turning off after X seconds is strange however. I've installed lots of these on various vehicles, and I've never had a time delay for light control.

2-way remotes are an incredible investment by the way. it will giver you feedback on everything from a ways away. I wouldnt buy a starter or alarm without a 2 way remote

I'm actually not using the compustar 1-way remote for unlocking/locking. I installed the Ezgo accessory for proximity unlock and use drone to start the vehicle. The remotes sit inside my house. The headlight auto off is a vehicle features not a compustar feature.

Are you saying if I remove the compustar parking light output the lights will still flash when the compustar unit unlocks/locks the car?
