does your radio center panel have a very fine vertical mold line perfectly in the center, starting at the bottom and fading as it gets to the horizontal indentation? it can't be felt, and isn't visible from certain angles.

here is a pic. uploading it to photobucket made it less visible. i'd appreciate it if you could check it out for me to see if you have the same thing - i find it interesting.

does your car have it? because it's not a scratch. that picture is to show the area for someone who has this car to check for me. that picture doesn't show that it's a perfectly centered and dead straight line going up to the horizontal indent. i'm asking if someone with this car can check theirs because i find it interesting that they would have a molding mark on half of the outside of that panel. i've always had it, and always wondered. let me know if your car has it.

I have the 'Piano Black' trim and there is no mold line.

I just went out to check mine (just for you) and it does have the mold line. Never noticed that before. It is very very very faint.

^ isn't that weird? i dunno, i find curious entertainment in such weird details. if i was in control of such things i'd never had a mold line showing RIGHT in middle of the media center on a silver plate. i've thought that since day one but never checked to see if it wasn't just mine until now :embarrassed:

and boosted1 you say the gloss black doesn't have it...so something is different with the plastic process because i'm sure the tooling is the same between the silver and black.

builthatch: I have an 08 with the same color trim as yours and do not appear to have this very fine line. I agree that this would not seem to be a spot where a mold line/split in the mold would be necessary or desired. Could maybe be a minor manufacturing defect or perhaps a week spot in the part caused a VERY fine crack to form? I've seen cracks that fine and straight before that basically remediable mold lines, but without seeing it in person I wouldn't know

^ yeah mayne that's def possible. even if others have it, it could indeed be said defect. i'm curious if anyone else has it other than me and Sask. i wish i had at least one other to peep around here but nobody has this car in my area. probably because there isn't a mazdaspeed dealer within 60 miles.

EARTH SHATTERING NEWS: After a MUCH closer inspection I do indeed have a little line as you described. It is so fine that it alluded multiple inspections until I parked in the sun and took a good look from a bunch of angles (can you tell its been bugging me haha), and I am frankly astonished you where able to get a picture that clearly shows it. It does look like a mold line to me but still it seems weird that they would put that there. It seems to run from the bottom of the part and stops somewhere in the area of that built in recessed strip although I can not clearly see where it ends. In conclusion I am now going to be staring at it all the time... thanks
