If You Boosted A N/A Protege, READ THIS

I'm not sure if this info has already been posted or not, but I find it hard to believe that this has been overlooked by many (even me).

One of the differences between the MSP and the the other Proteges are certain measures put in place to make the car reliable with boost. One such example is the presence of clamps to renforce ALL of the vac lines. I have found that these clamps are a must to ensure the proper boost seal. Another example (which is the topic of this thread) is the presence of a one-way check valve on the vaccum line going from the Purge Solenoid Valve to the Catch tank. This of course is emissions related. If you look at a diagram of our Evaporative Emission Control System, you will see that a manifold vac/boost signal is reaching the purge solenoid valve.

So if you have boosted a N/A Protege, what is happening is that the purge solenoid is getting a boost signal, and is probably boosting your evap system/gas tank, which could cause evap system leaks! (P0455). With that much pressure, the gas cap, purge valve has no choice but to let it out, or over-pressurize.
I have attached a picture specific to the FS-DE engine (NOTE: Not FS-DET), so the check valve is not present, but I have added a remark about where it should be.

The part number for the MSP one-way check valve is :

0000-88-C67

For Canister Purge. When you install this, you want the barb with the smaller diameter pointing toward the Throttle Body.

EDIT: Just ordered it. Price is $13.85 USD.

EDIT:
Just picked it up, here it is:

You can run a universal check valve also. Hondas do this also so their CEL wont be thrown if the MAP sees boost.

Yup if you want to keep your car running reliably. Theoretically it boosts your fuel tank and all that added pressure will force its way out somehow such as the gas cap.

was this causing a cel for you Pat? If not, how did you come to realize this?

How necessary is this to do if you have a boosted NA pro? Would you definately recommend I get on it? I absolutely trust your opinion, so say yes and Ill be copying down that part numbeer...

I told him his gas tank is being boosted?

here is how the s*** is hooked up, circled in blue are the clamps ONLY found on the MSP... the part number for the clamps are right next to them... circled in green is the s*** ONLY found on the engines that have that VTCS (non-MP3) bulls***

Good info, TheMAN.

Estimated cost on this part, btw?

Could I use one of these in line with the stock MAP so it doesn't see boost?

Man thats the first time I've been to TheMAN's website.... It reminds me alot of ESI... gee I wonder why....
