If I have listening fatigue ... what speakers have laid back highs?

I like Dynaudio, Sonus Faber speakers, Sennheiser PX 100 headphones all for their laid back highs. What 6.5" or 6x8 2 way component set would you recommend? Budget is $200 ($300 max). (so the Dynaudio car speakers are probably out). This is for a 2010 Mazdaspeed 3.

Thanks

hmmmmm... if you dont mind going used you might find some dyn's in your pricerange...Morel makes pretty laid back sound thats very warm to the ears..some of thier lower line stuff is around your budget if you can find Oz Audio Matrix Elite 180cs system...they stopped making that set like 5 years ago i think..but if you search it can be found..they are very warm and clear..can get loud if you want them too..Back in the day they were the only component set that ever scored 10 out of 10 from IASCA......I myself would listen to more sharper brighter sounding comps like Mb quart,Focal and Boston acoustics....I will say that the Diamond audio comps with the "silk" tweeters are pretty laid back..their no dynaudios...but they are pretty soft on the ears...anyways thats my 2 cents..man its been years since I was a car audio freak haha..goodluck.

So far I like the JL audio C5-650 (was $500 at the store though) and a $160 Pioneer 2 way component set that I could not identify online. The focal 165 was also ok (and I read you can adjust the tweeter down by a few db in the crossover)

I read elsewhere the Polk MM6501 was supposed to be laid back as well. Got to find a dealer though.

I would recommend you check these out for the price:

PPI 365CS

I am running a set of these in my B4000 and they blow away the Pioneer Premiers installed in my MS3. The tweeters are crossed over relatively low which helps to raise your sound stage and get a warmer sound. I have really enjoyed these components running off 100WRMS. I could feed them more power, but have not felt the need. I may try running them active this summer. I have not found the tweeter to be shrill under any circumstance. The speaker sounds very natural to me.

Be warned, the crossovers are HUGE (unless you are comparing them to Alpine type X crossovers).

I would recommend these to anyone who enjoys a warm, natural sound and who despises a shrill tweeter as I do.

I just realized that you cannot purchase them from Sonic Electronics anymore. That is where I ordered mine from. If you can dig up a set, try them. You will be blown away by this set for the dollar (this phrase makes them sound like cheap junk, but by no means do I intend it to sound like that). They may be hard to find, but worth it in my opinion if you can find some.

I forgot to mention that these speakers are modelled after an old a/d/s/ component set if that holds any merit with you.

General rule: cloth tweeters - soft domes. Not as technically accurate as hard tweeters, but much easier on the ears.
