If I got 17" rims would I HAVE to lower?

Is this a must? I'm not too keen on lowering and my car's pretty much stock, no ground effects or anything. Will this look bad? I was looking at the bronze Konig Blatants 17". Thanks! :D

i suggest you do. lowering it like an inch half makes a lot of difference in the world. helps with control and it makes your car look good. the good thing is, unless u get a lip, ull have no problems scraping or anything. i suggest you lower it though imo :) - chris

It personally bugs me when cars such as Civics drive around w/ 17" or 18" rims without lowering. if you don't like to lower too much, get the mp3 springs, and it should be fine.

i would lower it just because the protege5 stock is already pretty tall looking. with 17's on, it'll increase that affect. lowering it makes the stance more aggressive, and if done with good springs, the ride won't get much harsher. teins make really soft lowering springs that looks really nice. it gets rid of the wheel gap.

ACK! Wheel gap! Two of the worst words in car modding IMO. Okee... I guess I may have to drop it then. Will lowering 1.5" like L8R said get keep me from having *shudder* wheel gap?

eibachs, i think, are the best all around. they aren't as stiff as h&r's and won't make your car look slammed. on my car, it makes it sorta like a stock bmw, with very little wheel gap. it just looks tons better, i think. and the performance gains you get on top is just icing on the cake.

i just got 17's and i realy need to lower mine. its so friggen tall now that it feels like my car is going to tip over in some turns.

God, I wish I could lower my 5...my dad is strongly against it though. I was in Richmond Virginia when I experienced a wreck based almost entirely on my stupidity and the car's already stiff spring rates. When you lower a car, the suspension travel obviously lessens, which means that should you hit a pothole or something while driving aggressively through a turn, it's more likely you'll lose control like it did. Because I don't want to lower it right now, I went with 16's instead of 17's, although I gotta say a lowered P5 sitting on 17's looks so much better than my car...:(

Ok, so we got Eibachs and Teins... which is best for everyday driving. Keep in mind I ain't driving like no grandma here, I mean, I do drive a P5 and we all know how much fun they are :D so I do like to play around sometimes, mostly when taking corners, seems I'm always going fast too.... Anyway, what are the pros and cons of each because MP5driva03 just scared the crap out of me. J/k. :D

PS to roywhiteP5 - love the rims, they really set off the white very nicely! :D

Haha sorry man, I'm not trying to scare the crap outta you, just making sure you know the facts...as for which springs, if any, I would support Tein. I helped put Teins on my friend's project Integra, and they are some of the best springs I have ever seen.
