Ideas for new car

Hey all,

I'm currently looking for a new car for when I go on internship. I was originally thinking 2003 Accord/2004 Mazda 6, but they seem to be a little out of my price range. The Sentra Spec-V is great bang for the buck, but the interior looks a little too cheap for my taste.

So what about something like the 2003 Mazda Protege? 130hp, true....but can I soup it up with a turbo or something like that? Any other recommendations? I would prefer a newer car (2001+, 4dr since I'm considering insurance too, pwr everything) with prices ranging from $20,000 - $25,000.

I don't like the orange the Mazdaspeed comes in, but otherwise it seems like a great little car. Can I get the basic Protege souped up to the level of the Mazdaspeed? Obviously it won't be factory work, it'll be aftermarket, but still...?

I'm kinda new to the whole car buying experience, so please share your extensive knowledge with me! Thanks!

Just buy a black one (MSP). Or wait for the 2003.5s in Grey or Yellow. Repainting the Orange would be a crime.

I'm actually quite fond of it. ;) I myself am debating on whether I should get a 2003.5 MSP or a base Protege and just going at it with the money I'll save. I'm leaning more for the MSP though.. *shrug*

There were some people trying to sell the original '01 MP3 on this forum - why don't you take a look at those if you want to save some money but still have an awesome car to soup up?

Hrm.. I dont even know the specs of the MP3, as there's no real info on the website that I can see.. Maybe I should search around.

they are also making 2 other colors for the 2003.5 mazdaspeed..it will come in the mp3 blue and the silver colr they offer now on proteges

Yeah, I'm dying for an orange. Especially after seein' OrangeMSP's. He was nice enough to come pick me up (I'm carless right now) and let me ride with him all night. VERY cool. I love the car.

I'm sorry, I meant $20,000 to $25,000 CANADIAN. As far as I know, the Mazda speed is out at $28,000, plus taxes is gonna be a little out of my price range.

Would adding a turbo to a regular '02 or '03 sedan achieve the same effect as a Speed? Or is there a lot more to it?

I'd consider a nice bright color VW Gti 1.8t =) change the grill out and it looks damn good.

Actually, the two colors are a very nice looking silver/gray, and yellow.

I thought the orange looked bad ass too. But then I got sick of it. Seeing it in person quite a few times has re-affirmed my stance ;).

The turbo all said and done will be over $3K USD for just the kit then another $500 for guages $1000 to be safe, $500 for an exhuast. Also, remeber you will have no warrenty and dealers will refuse service on the car.
