Ice racing Sunday 3/2

Hey everyone! This is my first post in this forum. I'm the guy with the red RX-8 you saw on the pics. I had a blast, even though I had one of the slowest times of the day (funny enough I beat Astral's time even though he had the snow tires...try not to spin next time, hehehe :P).
Hehe, I was probably going way too slow! After the spins. What time did you get in the end? My 2nd lap was pathetically slow at ~1:50, most RWDs were in the 1:3x range. But I don't know what my 3rd lap time was, as they haven't posted the results yet.

Thanks for the video, Chris!

Astral, your best time was in the 1:40's. My best time was in the 1:38's (i forgot the exact numbers). I don't think they will post the times (judging by previous results in their webpage). Maybe you should send an email to the organizer.

Question: did you run with traction control off? You told me in the morning you were going to try it without the TCS. I decided not to turn it off in any of the runs since I tried running the practice course without it and it felt like I was driving a drunken elephant on a steep downhill...no control whatsoever.

I felt that the only downside of having it off is that when the car is going sideways and you want to accelerate to spin the wheels and keep the drifting going the TCS just rejects it and you kinda drift away to the outside until the car gains some traction again. Oh my...so much to learn about winter driving.

Are you going this weekend...seems like it's going to happen. I might go again with my friend vinnie in a toyota celica, but not very sure yet.

I think my times were 1:29 and 1:26. The best time in my class that I saw was 1:22. I contacted them about the results and they will be up soon.

I was running w/o traction control the whole day. I couldn't even launch with it on and it only made the understeer worse.

i would think TC would sippose to help....or is it because it's transfering traction that it screws everything up?

Interesting... Sliding is not very fast on the ice. So DSC/TCS helps prevent spinning out. Dunno, I'll try with it, but I kinda like the "raw" feel without it.

Yeah, the organizer said the results will be up soon.

I am definitely going up this weekend if it's on.

Well it is actually DSC on the MS6 and not TCS...if that makes a difference. If I launch the engine picks up revs starts spinning wheels and then the DSC starts cutting power.

According to this document, it "Monitors vehicle speed, steering angle, G-force and
Yaw and adjust braking on individual wheels to help
maintain the vehicle on the correct line through turns" and "is designed to help correct understeer and oversteer."

But how much can it really correct when there is virtually no traction to perform the correction?

Anyone thinking about going ice racing this weekend March 16th? It's not definite yet but they probably won't know for sure until Saturday afternoon. I'm thinking about heading up if the event is a go.
